Preventing Videostudio from using space on C: drive
I'm currently evaluating Videostudio Pro X6. I've installed the program to drive F:. I've set my working directory within the program to drive G:. I have the Windows environment variables for the system temp folders set to G: as well. However, I've noticed that when the program is running it's using several hundred megabytes on drive C:. Upon exiting, the space is restored. Where are these temporary files being written to? Is there any way to prevent this behavior?

Re: Preventing Videostudio from using space on C: drive
the easiest way to find where the temporary files are being written to is to do a search of your hard drive on a "Time modified" base while using VideoStudio and that will throw up those files - but I suspect that most people do not have the slightest concern where they are and have never searched them out.
I would guess that 99% of every Windows software programme ever written writes temporary files to drive C while working - it is the standard for Windows - why are you so concerned about it - as you say VideoStudio deletes them all on exit so they do not fill up your C drive.
If you have serious concerns about the free space on your C drive then perhaps you should be upgrading your hard drive - they are relatively cheap these days and very easy to fit and format.
I have no idea whether they can be directed to another drive.

Just a couple of thoughts. You've probably already done this but make sure you deleted the User Variables TEMP and TMP in the top part of the Environment Variables box so that the System variables settings will then be used by default. Then reboot so that the new settings will take effect.
Also, it's possible that Videostudio is using your Windows Page File (Virtual Memory). Since you know about Environment Variables I assume you probably already know about this too. But if not, you might try changing the Page File location to your G: drive and see if that works. There is an intial size and a maximum size value that can be changed, too.
Here is a link (I hope this allowed!) to a review on Amazon that might be of interest:
http://www.amazon.com/Corel-VSPRX6ULENM ... B00BFNCFXG
The relevant part is:
"A huge caution to watch out for with this software - it leaves temporary files all over the place. And then it never cleans them up. Whenever the software renders a clip, it stores a set of temporary files. As far as I can tell, there is no way to tell the software to do this on a particular drive or directory. If you continue to create new projects, gigabytes of files start to accumulate."

Re: Preventing Videostudio from using space on C: drive
This issue is an annoyance to me more than anything. Windows allows you to customize where temporary files are stored and yet many programs don't respect these settings and continue to use the C: drive as default. I've since freed up more space on drive C: so there' no chance of Videostudio using up everything. My boot drive is a 90 GB SSD divided into two partitions. I thought 42 or so gigabytes would be more than enough for the OS and any updates. However, since Windows and many other programs like to use the C: drive regardless of settings to the contrary, the free space on this partition keeps steadily shrinking. Meanwhile, my 500 GB hard drive has plenty of space on it.BrianCee wrote: I would guess that 99% of every Windows software programme ever written writes temporary files to drive C while working - it is the standard for Windows - why are you so concerned about it - as you say VideoStudio deletes them all on exit so they do not fill up your C drive.

Re: Preventing Videostudio from using space on C: drive
Hi
Video Studio has two working folders, these can be assigned to any drive.
1st working folder is used for capture and editing.
Press F6 (Settings Preferences-General Tab) to allocate a location
2nd working folder, used for temporary files when burning / rendering
Access the burner module, Share Create Disc
Press f6 to allocate a location.
Do More Downloads
are saved to C:\ProgramData\Corel\Dowmloads
Once installed should be able to move them to another location?
Instant project templates
are installed to C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate
As far as I know you have to retain this location in order to automatically populate the library, but if you move them you should be able to manually add to the library.
I normally download and install a template, move the template from the VSPTemplate folder before re-booting VS.
Proxy Files
used for HD video are saved to C:\Users\User Names\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\16.0\
F6—Performance tab to allocate a new folder.
I don’t know of any other folders that can be moved without affecting the functionality of the program?
Do not use the library to hold your video files, insert clips directly to the timelines, save the VSP files to your project working folder. Outside c/Drive.
