Which format for what use?

Post by kristell »

Hello - sorry to ask such a dumb question.

When I go to share my videos I am unsure which format to use - there are so many choices. Is there a table somewhere which would help me to decide which to use?

Thanking you in advance.

I do not know of a table any where but there are very few hard rules about what format to use - it really is just a matter of knowing what looks best on the equipment used to view it.

if you are going to create a DVD which will play in a standard DVD player then somewhere along the line you need a DVD compliant mpeg-2 file, although if you do not create one VideoStudio will do the conversion during the burn to disc process, if uploading to the web (youtube etc.) then you would probably use an mp4 (mpeg-4) although many people still use .wmv

you really need to know the viewing application to make the best choice of output file

...And if burning a Blu-Ray disc, you need either an AVCHD clip or one in Blu-Ray compatible high def transport stream mpeg-2.
