Only the Chapters

Post by Chips »

Hi guys. It seems from the conversations here that I'm somewhat behind the times! Up until recently I was happy using X2, but now I've had to get an old copy of X3 due to Win7. My problem is how can I avoid having the title screen and just have a chapter menu when I'm making a DVD? I'd much prefer to go straight to chapters like I did on X2.

Also, I store all my clips in subfolders. On X2 all I had to do was drag n drop via the Windows folders. Things have become a bit more complex with X3, it seems. Anyways, from what I can see from the instruction videos they only tell you how to get to clips if they're lose inside a single folder. Can I click on the main folder and be able to select from all the subfolders inside?

Why have you had to get an old copy of version X3 - why did you not come right up to date and get X6 - mine works perfectly well on windows 7

as far as most of us are concerned X3 is a terrible version in that in that version Corel tried removing the create disc module and supplied Movie Factory to do the authoring - a disaster all round - I would strongly urge you to ditch X3 and get up to date with X6

I do not understand what you mean when you say you cannot drag video clips from Windows folders into VS - you can drag and drop individual clips from inside subfolders if you want to.

And yes - at least in X6 and as far as I can remember since before X2 - but possibly NOT with X3 as it did not have the inbuilt module - you can create a DVD menu with just chapters and no title page - under the 'Edit' tab on the second screen in the burn module choose 'Advanced settings' and uncheck "Add title menu"

sounds like X3 is not the programme for you - try X6

In any case, with the update patches, VS 12 (X2) was made compatible with Win 7... But I certainly agree with Brian: drop X3 like a hot potato!!

Wow, I didn't know that it was such a dog! I logically thought that X3 would be the same as X2 but with just a slight advancement. I didn't know that they'd muck around with the interface to such an extent that it'd make it awkward to use!

From what I can tell from the instruction vids you have to do all the drag n drop in the X3 program itself when doing a DVD project. You can't just open up Windows Explorer and do it manually like with all the previous versions. They said in the vid that it was a much easier way, but I can't see it myself. Rather than finding all my clips how I used to through Windows Explorer I had to tick little boxes in the program so it could automatically find my clips for me. Needless to say it didn't work out as well as they claimed. You know, sometimes the old ways are the best ways. In my case I find it far easier to locate my clips without help from programs. I know exactly where my clips are and I don't need a computer's help to find and sort them for me. That can and did just confuse things good and proper. So, are you saying that later versions of Video Studio got rid of the automatic locating and sorting system for video clips?

I'm not sure if X3 had the option to edit out the title screen the way you say, but from what you've said and from what I saw in the vids it possibly didn't. I think you're stuck with a silly title screen whether you want it or not. Terrible interface all round though. And the way they restricted the way I could get to my clips was really, really awful.

Why did I get X3? Other than what I've already said it was also simply a matter of limited budget. More fool me I guess. What's Video Studio X4 onwards like for quick and easy drag n drop DVD making interfaces?

I didn't know there were patches for X2. I actually tried to use X2 with Win7, but other than being slightly unstable it also refused to accept most MP4 clips. One of X3's few saving graces was that it was really happy with MP4 video clips.

X4 or X5 are both available cheaper as they are now considered old products and would have been a much better buy since from X4 onwards the Create disc module was back inside VideoStudio and was the same module which was in X2.

I do not know what tutorials you have been watching but most tutorials just show you one way of getting the job done.

You have X3 - why not just try dragging and dropping a video from a folder in Windows explorer into the timeline of VideoStudio. I can assure you it most definitely DOES WORK in X4 - I side stepped X3 so I cannot try that for you.

There are numerous ways of getting a video into VideoStudio - such as 'insert to timeline' - 'import to library' - 'capture from camera' - 'drag and drop' - just use the one that you prefer

You CAN drag and drop individual videos from sub folders in Windows Explorer into the timeline of all the latest versions of VideoStudio OR if you wish you can select Insert to timeline and browse to you videos in sub-folders and select them .

Hi guys, it's me again! :) Honestly speaking, what version is best for making DVDs, X4, X5 or X6? Is X6 a definite improvement over X4 and X5? Is it as easy to use and has more options than the other two?

All versions EXCEPT X3 are very good at making DVD's

there is a matrix which compares all the functions available in X4, X5 and X6 both Pro and Pro Ultimate versions so you can see which one has the features you think you will use - but all have very similar DVD creation functions.

You can find the comparison matrix here :-
