Video clips pause when creating DVD

Post by KevinL »

Hello, I just tried creating my first video using VideoStudio X6 ultimate. I have multiple video clips, a jpg, an audio and a couple of music tracks. I've created it without problems and it plays great in the program during preview. My problem was when I tried to burn it to a DVD+RW disc. When I play the disc in my player, each time a video clip ends, there is a split second pause before the next clip starts. It also appears this way during the preview in the DVD creating utility. Does anyone have any ideas what I did wrong, or how to resolve this? I submitted a ticket to Corel Support, and they told me to install the SP1. But I had trouble installing that service pack, but looking at my version, I see that I have 16.1.0.45. So maybe I already had installed it? Thanks.

Yes 16.1.0.45 indicates that SP1 is already installed - it can install automatically depending on what settings you have chosen in VideoStudio.

If you have burnt a number of individual clips to a DVD then there will always be a small break between them as the DVD player searches for the next clip on the disc - if you want a sequence to play all the way through without any pauses or spaces then you need to render all of your clips into one continuous video before burning the DVD.

Does rendering happen automatically during the process? When I clicked to burn it, I received a message that it would take some time to render. I clicked OK to continue and let it do its thing. Is there something else that I needed to do?

whether rendering occurs after you click on 'burn' in the DVD creating module depends entirely on what video you put in the timeline - if all the videos you insert are mpeg-2 DVD compliant then little or no rendering will occur - but any other format will cause rendering into a DVD compliant video.

But that is not the question - my question was did you put a number of individual files into the timeline in the burn module - or did you combine them all first into one continuous video - individual files will give rise to the very short break you see between videos - one continuous video will not.

Ah, I think I see what you are asking. OK, this is what I did...in the Edit module, I added a bunch of individual clips into the video track, and added some audio tracks. I saved this as a single project. Then in the burn module, when trying to create a DVD disc, I only put one video in the burn module's timeline....the single video (project) that I had created in the Edit module.

Well that's quite strange if you made them all into one project before entering the Create disc module.

Are all of your videos and photos etc. in the top video track - or have you put them in one of the overlay tracks. - - reason for asking is that if the clips are in the top track they all automatically butt hard up against each other - but in the overlay tracks it is quite possible to leave small gaps between them which will show up when playing.

when you play the project in the main Editing window do you see gaps there ? - even with everything in the top timeline ?

try expanding the timeline to maximum magnification (controls above right hand end of the timeline) and see if there are any blank frames at the end or beginning of the clips which need to be edited out

The other option would be to render your project in the editing module into a DVD-compliant mpeg-2, then open the burning module and insert that new file and NOT the project file (Share > Create Video File >DVD). This will also allow you to test the new file first before committing it to the burning process.

Yes, when in the Edit module, all video clips are in the top video track. There are no clips in the video overlay track. I also tried to create a DVD-compliant mpg file, and then used that file in the burn process. But I got the same result. Upon closer review, this is what happens - near the end of each video clip segment, the video will freeze for split second, and then finish that clip which is only another split second, and then the next video clip starts. This also happens on the rendered mpg file, whether I'm previewing it in the burn process module or the Edit module. However, when I preview the PROJECT (before rendering) in the Edit module, everything looks great. So, it must be something going on during rendering?

Update: I tried the last method again, but used a (1280x720) MPEG-4 file instead. I had created this type of file before to upload to facebook, and it had played correctly. When burning to a DVD disc using this file type, the DVD was created and it plays without the freeze frame problem. Not sure if this method has any other drawbacks or not. Anyone know of any issues in doing it this way? I guess there are a number of ways to create a DVD, as long as the end result works?

Well yes I would agree with that - if the disc plays correctly and the video looks good onscreen how it got on the disc is not important.

I can only assume VideoStudio had some sort of problem it could not resolve correctly with the previous format.
