How to create rewind-video lines?

Post by Phil »

Hi,

I want to reverse a video clip backwards at speed.

How could I create the old VHS rewind-look where distorted lines appear across the screen. Any filters handy for this? Using VSP x6 Ultimate.

Cheers

Simple... In your FX window, apply the "Old Film" filter, then customise it till it's the way you want... (It's been available in every version of VS since I started with version 7.0!!)

Wasn't the look I was after - The FX insists on a colour grading, lines are always vertical and straight.

I'm looking for horizontal wavy lines.

Any thoughts?

As near as I could get - see attachment below.

This was done by applying the "Rolling Waves" FX filter - then choosing to customise it by first choosing the "Moving Shadows" preset and then altering the angle to 90 - the frequency to around 20 , the warp to around 25, and the amplitude to 45. setting a slightly different frequency at each end of the clip causes the lines to scroll while playing .

Thanks Brian. This is great and workable.

I added a couple more key frames to make them expand and contract. Speeded up some audio to give that fast rewind sound.

Thanks to you and your colleagues, this forum is a credit to you all.
