DV Quick Scan skips clips

Post by Rich »

Hello again. Thanks for help with previous posts.

I've been working though previously captured files via DV Quick Scan in Video Studio Pro X5 from a Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV130 NTSC. I used a firewire connection. I've been choosing captured files to burn to disc. Initially, I noticed multiple copies of some clips... starting and/or stopping at different times in the clip. I'm a little OCD, so I was looking at the original tape while choosing files... mostly to keep them in order. Anyway, I've also noticed that at least 3 clips were not captured at all. I can edit out the extra clips, but was not happy to find that other clips were not captured at all. I didn't seen anything about this on the forum. Is this a new problem? Is there a simple solution? I tried capturing the files "manually" without DV Quick Scan. I could get the clips, but there was no date stamp. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Rich

I do not know why the problem is occurring with DV Quick Scan.

Personally I do not use that feature, for me the Quick Scan is not that quick, I prefer to capture all clips using Split by Scene.
This captures clips as separate scenes which can easily be edited, deleting the unwanted clips.
Should you wish to do so you can set the capture duration via the digital clock.

Try capturing your tape as normal, “Split by Scene”, this will test the capture process,

There is a free capture software called WinDV, very good at capturing Mini-DVTape.
The program allows you to name the captured clips, something that VS does not do.

If you have problems capturing using the above methods then it may be a Firewire connection issue?

By the way the Date Stamp can be activated via Preferences F6
