Canceling or clearing a Command

Post by MIGuy »

When I use the Object Removal Tool and after removing the last object I can't cancel or clear the command. The dotted selection box around the object selected remains on the screen. "Esc" doesn't do anything. After doing a crop I can right click on the screen and a dialogue box opens up allowing me to clear the screen of the grid, but that doesn't seem to work with the Object Removal Tool. I think I've read everything I can find, but I'm not seeing the answer. I watched a video on the command, but it didn't show how the command was canceled.

I'm going to be really embarrassed if this is an easy answer.

Thank you,

That selection marquee is not part of the Object Removal tool itself.

It's just a regular selection. So to remove the selection, you remove it just like you would a regular selection.

Go to the Selections menu and "Select None" or hit Ctrl + D.

This is very handy, because some people don't like how loose the freehand selection is for selecting objects. You can make a selection before using the Object Removal tool if you prefer making a more exact selection with some of the other options. But yeah, that selection is a regular selection nothing special to the Object Removal tool.

Thank you LeviFiction. I was so frustrated this morning, I was ready to throw something out a window.
