Here is screen capture of the window message.
Here is screen capture of the window message.
I am having difficulty installing the SP1. It downloads, runs and then responds with the following window message "The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate." The message goes on from there but what does it mean?? Perhaps I am missing something during the installation. I have my disk that I ordered from Corel right here.

If there is something I can do please let me know.

That message is Corels very strange way of telling you that service pack one is already installed - depending on your settings it can happen automatically.

Check your version number "Corel Guide >> Cog wheels >> About VideoStudio" it should be 16.1.0.45 - the second digit indicating the SP level.

Nice cryptic message! Looks like customer service would get a handle on the developers or the developers would ask the customer service people how to better word error messages. Yet it runs on Windows which usually just says nothing that makes sense.

Thank you so very much for this information now I can just go on my way. ;)

I am having the same thing happen (was hoping it would fix the Corel Guide and "more content" link so I could actually see and use them)-

Where/how do I find the version number to see if my SP level is where it should be?

I bought (upgraded) to VS6 (ultimate) this past week, registered it, (it shows it is registered in my account), and since I did that, I've been having problems getting things to work right. Another problem is my VS5 (ultimate) which I use for backup- all the files of my library suddenly and for no apparent reason disappeared. This happened today, though it worked just fine last night (was hoping this patch would fix it, but am not even sure it is in my computer). But maybe I should put that under a different topic?

Please help?

(btw- I have Windows 7 Professional and 9.0 GB ram - I have no idea why it says what it does in my profile and don't know how to change it. The settings appear fixed)

You can find out if service pack one is installed by downloading it and trying to install it - if you get the error message shown above then you have service pack one installed.

It says what it says in your profile because you put it there when you registered - it is not fixed YOU can change it at any time via your user control panel - which is accessed by clicking on the words "User Control Panel" up under the large word "Corel" - then selecting the profile tab.

I was trying to access the profile from a different source and change it there.

Hi,

i tried to execute the service pack upgrade today, but it could not find the version number and terminates. So i checked, which version i currently have installed of the Video Studio PRO X6 by calling the product information button within Video Studio.
But ....there is only a blank screen comming up, without any infos.

Any idea, what went wrong ?

Thanks
Michael.

Hi
and welcome to the forums

When installing the Service Packs if you see the error “version cannot be determined” (something like that) then the pack is already installed. Just the wrong wording by Corel.?
As mentioned by Brian…..
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 15#p277140

You can download the service packs manually, there is a link at the top of the forum for Patches and Updates

Michael, when you access the info button are you connected to the internet?

Installing the Service pack 1 "patch" results in an error message something on the order of-- a particular file cannot be created because it is already there. Hit retry or skip. Then try to open X6 and it no longer can open; and neither can my X5 version! Uninstall both X6 and X5, reinstall X6 without Service pack 1 and all works fine once again. For me the patch is clearly worse than any problem it was supposedly issued to fix.

What is the build number of your X6? With Service Pack 1 it should be 16.1.0.45. People who bought X6 in recent months apparently already had Service Pack 1 rolled into it by Corel, so that could have been the cause of that strange message you got. For some reason Corel never put in an obvious message such as "You've already got it", but instead used something like "The version number of the intsalled version cannot be determined" -- see the image posted by cperg a few posts above this. If the strange message didn't appear like that, then you have another problem (but one I don't know how to resolve).

My build no. is 16.0.0.106 (Ultimate version). After I installed X6, the second time I opened it I was informed that this update (Service Pack 1) was available and ready
for download. Now, I will have to say No thanks to that.

I'll be following this as I have a Win7-64 system with VS X5 that I am planning on installing a new copy of VS X6 plus the service pack but will hold off until I understand what caveats may apply.

Does this service pack work with Ultimate Edition? I tried to install it and got a message saying that it couldn't determine the build.

The Ultimate version is identical to the Pro version. The only difference is that the Ultimate version comes with third party plug-ins. But that sort of message is Corel's curious way of say you probably already have a version with the service pack included.
