Thanks for that, Brian!
And for the record, the new version number I get is 16.1.0.45. The original one was 16.0.0.106.

Does anyone know what improvements there are? Make Movie Template (MP4) still using Ulead MP4 codec. Has the bitrate been increased?MPEG-4 files – improved compatibility and quality
Any support for Nikons?DSLR support – added new camera support and enhanced existing support

Re: VideoStudio X6 Service pack one released.
Re the mp4 profiles, the maximum bitrates for h.264 Main and High output is 20 Mbps. I can't recall if this was the maximum before the Service Pack, but suspect it may have been. Unfortunately, I don't usually output to mpeg-4 per se, but to the AVCHD version of it using the MPEG Transport Stream option under Custom. I can also emulate AVCHD 2.0 output (i.e. bitrate up to 27 Mbps) by using either Same As First Clip or making a template with the Add option.
I know nothing about whether the Nikon camera list has been updated. Corel tells us nothing about these service packs beyond what is printed with the update. Hopefully, though, someone with first hand experience might be able to answer you.

Hi Ken
could you publish the values needed for an "emulated" AVCHD 2.0?
I guess this would be helpful for a lot of people, including me.

Re: VideoStudio X6 Service pack one released.
As requested, here is the full AVCHD 2.0 standard, which came out in 2011. Note that I was wrong when I said the max bitrate was 27 Mbps. In fact it is 28 Mbps (previous max for AVCHD 1.0, was 18 Mbps, and 20 Mbps for AVCREC). The image comes from Wikipedia.
Note that while this is the standard for AVCHD, and while AVCHD is one of the Blu-Ray formats, not all of the AVCHD properties is reflected in the Blu-Ray standard -- notably, that 1920 x 1080 at 50/60 full frames per second is still not part of the Blu-Ray standard. Only 1280 x 720 50/60p can be burned to a Blu-Ray disc at the moment.

Is x6 more stable than x5? I don't care about the bells and whistles....just want to be able to complete a simple .mts plus .jpg image blu ray video WITHOUT THE PROGRAM CRASHING! Cheers JTBKen Berry wrote:Thanks for that, Brian!![]()

Re: VideoStudio X6 Service pack one released.
Unfortunately, that is a bit like asking "how long is a piece of string"... For many of us, X6 is quite stable. It has never -- not once -- crashed on me. But then again, neither had X5, X4 or even the awful X3 (awful for other reasons). Moreover, I almost exclusively these days only make Blu-Ray/AVCHD or HDV videos and don't have any trouble -- though patience is often required since these formats can be demanding on computer resources, even with an i7 CPU...Is x6 more stable than x5?

Thanks for the response.....maybe ill give x6 a try.....x5 does whack the Cpu pretty good....but x5 doesn't seem to ljke jpeg images. Tried 1to make a blu ray of just images ...never could get it to complete. I hate to have to go back to thd drawing board each time I use the program

Re: VideoStudio X6 Service pack one released.
That's also strange about the jpegs... I just made two videos the other day -- an AVCHD and HDV -- which included a slideshow of jpegs... and it worked fine. But then again, I never had trouble with jpeg slideshows in earlier versions either, and I'd bet a lot of users regularly make them using jpegs as the most common format. Some users in the past have had trouble with jpeg2000 format, though... But the majority of jpegs don't use that specific variant...

Re: VideoStudio X6 Service pack one released.
Sometimes I wonder if the size of the jpg's are too large - I have batch converted them - average 300k - Had 190 jpg's - perhaps that is too many. I don't have any other program running in the background - you would think this computer would be strong enough. Now the rest of the story - IT WAS and now it is freezing up. Are you familiar with the "dump file?" I saw an error message referring to a dump file. Video processing is the ONLY thing I use this computer for - and it doesn't seem to be cutting the mustard. I wonder if my computer is configured correctly? I recall a tutorial on this board that mentioned configuring the computer to work best with Video Studio - but alas I can't find it. Info like paging file - what to turn on and what to turn off so as to devote the entire computer to X5 - Maybe you could dig that up for me. I have been using VS before the X's and have had versions 3, 4 and 5 and they ALL crashed or froze at one time or another.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh
If I am able to covert to AVCHD file and not BD - is AVCHD pretty much the same as BD?
Thanks as always for you time

Re: VideoStudio X6 Service pack one released.
Well your computer is certainly powerful enough to process and play high def video. I used to use a Quad 6600 with only 4 MB of RAM, and it could do it with no problem using X2 through to X5.
As for the dump files, there is no point in posting them here as no one here knows anything about them. We don't work for Corel, as you probably know, and only the Corel techs might have any idea what those files mean.
I don't recall any specific tutorial on configuring your computer for best results. Maybe someone else might have an idea on that. All I can say is that I have never ever specifically reconfigured any of my computers to maximise their performance for video editing.
AVCHD, I hate to say, is currently the most demanding format on computer resources. It is high def mpeg-4 created using the h.264 codec. It is, however, one of the acceptable formats for Blu-Ray -- the other main format being transport stream high def mpeg-2. The latter is less demanding on computer resources.

Re: VideoStudio X6 Service pack one released.
Does anyone know if the bug of Smartsound being greyed out in Windows 8 has been fixed in VS6 SP1? It's not listed in the list of fixes. Thank you.

Re: VideoStudio X6 Service pack one released.
Service Pack one (SP1) causes Video Studio 6 to crash in my Windows 7 64-bit sys. I am getting "program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning" every time I try to start Video Studio 6, since installing SP1. Dump file indicated is vstudio_16.1.0.45_20130805_220723.dmp. Video Studio 6 worked good before installing SP1. When this started happening, I did a clean uninstall of Video Studio 6. Then, reinstalled Video Studio 6 and it worked fine. Then, reinstalled SP1 and this crash problem came back again. My Video Studio 6 90-day warranty recently expired and I don't see any instructions on Corel WWW site for reporting problems with SP1. Please advise any ideas for solution or for getting this issue addressed.

Re: VideoStudio X6 Service pack one released.
Hi JSchaffer
and welcome to the forums
I do not think the problem has been reported before, but does make you wonder when a clean install runs ok.
Today I found a strange issue in fact two issues rendering Panasonic HD 50fps Pal video, I wont go into details as the camera is new, as is the update patch so I am on a learning curve.
But your problem has prompted me, and I will be re-installing X6 to see if it works ok without the patch. First I will do a few more tests before changing anything.
Sorry if that does not help your issue, unless it is the patch.
All I can say is you should run the program without the patch. I’m sure you will be doing that anyway.
This post is a sticky at the top of the forum so I will most likely start a new topic.
