PSP X5 Crashing

Post by livewired500 »

Bought Paint Shop Pro X5 Ultimate recently. It is updated to version 15.2.0.12. However, PSP keeps crashing at random times. In fact, I started it to check on the version number while writing this and the message "Paint Shop Pro X5 has stopped working."

This is extremely frustrating. I have had to redo the work on a single file 4 times now.

I have re-installed the software. I have rebooted my machine. And the crashes don't seem to come from a specific action. It will crash while idle (when I'm not doing anything).

Is there a more stable version I should revert to or is this a known issue that will be resolved?

Asus Sabertooth x79
i7 3820 @ 4.6ghz
Corsair 16GB 1600
GTX680
Corsair H100i
Samsung 840 250GB SSD (OS and PSPX5 installed)
Western Digital Black Cavalier 1TB
Win8 Pro
Visual Studio 2012
MS Office 365
TrendMicro Titanium Maximum

Can't think of any other software that would be messing with it.

This problem is probably unique to you. I have no issue running X5 and I do not hear of major crashing issues often.

I suggest since you're probably still within your 90 day warranty that you contact Corel support and get help directly.

It might be MSI Afterburner actually. I've turned it off and no crashes so far. Will have to keep testing.

Another thing you might try. I have X5 running on an XP Home system and so far have not had any problems.
It is likely as Levifiction has said that it is something with your system or other hardware or other software causing a conflict.
You might use your task manager to see what processes are running and check up on those.
Also starting in safe mode and see if X5 operates in that without all the other background programs running.
If it does not run then it may be a problem with your hardware main board etc.
If it does run then you might bring in each other program and see if you can locate where the conflict starts.

If it were a major program problem then a lot more people with XP would be having problems.

No more crashes since I stopped MSI Afterburner from running. Looks like it was the culprit after all. Thanks for the replies.
