Video Studio ProX4 bug with video clip lengths?

Post by SBH »

Hi - I am new to this forum so apols if this has been answered previously.

I use Video Studio Pro X4 and there seems to be an annoying bug when editing multiple clips together.

An example - lets say I have already put in an intro clip and want to then put some cut away clips over the top at certain points (so use track manager). For some reason, whenever I insert a new clip, the programme extends the length clip so for example, lets say the cut away clip is 20 seconds long, once inserted the programme would extend this clip to say it is 40 seconds long. When you play it, when it reaches its original length (i.e. 20 seconds) it then freezes on the last image until the clip ends (i.e. up to the 40 seconds) or goes to a black screen. The only way to prevent this is to manually edit the clip down on the storyboard, but if like me you sometimes use dozens of clips on a single video it is somewhat frustrating!

It happens all the time and is very annoying.

Can anyone advise why this happens or if this is a bug?

Thanks

Hi - welcome.

Well X4 has been around for well over two years now and I cannot recall any other users reporting the same problem so it cannot be called a bug

so tell us about the videos - where did they come from - can you put a clip into the VideoStudio timeline and right click on it and choose properties from the pop out - can you then take a screen shot of the properties box and post it up here.

if you put the same videos in the top video track do they also change length there or is it only when you put them in the overlay track

Will do when I next use the progamme later this week. The problem happens with any video track including the top one and overaly clips. I'll try and post a screen shot as well when I get a chance.

Hi there - I have attached images for you. You can see in the Quick Time player image that the clip is clearly 2.19 in length.

I have then inserted it into Video Studio Pro X4 and it has extended it to 5.10 minutes by itself. I have a properties image shot as requested but will do that in a seperate posting.

If I play that clip, it will simply freeze on the last image after 2.19 and will stay like that until it reaches the end of the clip in the editing studio (5.10mins)

I havent done anything to the clip, all I simply did was click 'insert video' and that is what it did. It does it on every clip I insert.

Any advice appreciated!

Is your video shot with 60 p - that would account for why your version of VideoStudio is seeing twice the length - X4 could never handle 60p and is doing the best it can with it.. the properties are not showing 60p but that could be because X4 does not have the facilities to display that fact.

It would be worth downloading the free trial of X6 which providing you you enable 50p/60p editing in settings will handle 60p videos.

You haven't said what output format you are trying to render to. But one thing you could try with X4, if you want the 60 full frames per second, is to finish editing (I know -- difficult with the problem you are having!), then choose Share > Create Video File > Custom. In the dialogue box which appears, choose "MPEG transport stream (*.m2t)" as the output format. Then click on the Options box. A new dialogue box will appear. On the Compression tab, change the video format from the default MPEG to H.264 video, and tick the AVCHD box below that. Then on the General tab, change the Frame Rate to 60 and the Frame Type to Frame Based. Then below that change Frame Size to 1920 x 1080. Click OK to close that box. Give the new file a name. Then click the Save button to close that box and start the rendering.
