Sick of waiting. Goodbye. You lost a customer.
Promises and waiting, and I'm just done. Found out my very old Capture One Pro license still worked to get me an upgrade to the most current version (haven't used it since version 3 or so). All the latest cameras are supported there. Not much of a learning curve to my old way of working with Bibble before it was purchased and orphaned by Corel.
Good luck, everyone. Hope your patience is better than mine, as it looks like you'll need it.

I Was thinking about giving ASP a try. I tried the demo and it seems alright for hobbyist like myself, but I won't be buying into it.
Too many disgruntled ASP users scare me. LOL.
If you out there Bibble developement team you should probably start checking in the forums and sorting thigns out with the userbase.
Is Corel stopping you from posting support on the forums because Corel won't get a fee by charging users for it?

Why? What's the incentive? They where fired....saidosi wrote:If you out there Bibble developement team you should probably start checking in the forums and sorting thigns out with the userbase.
As there is a new management responsible for AS in Corel, there is a bit of hope that things will get better, but actual results are not there yet.
cheers

You got that right.saidosi wrote:but actual results are not there yet.
I'm actually reprocessing some of my images from ASP in Capture One Pro, and am amazed in the difference in quality. It's like night and day... I'm not kidding. I should have left months ago.

Wow, I didn't know they were fired.
Well, I guess until Aftershot Pro gets some improved features and better PR and what not, I'll update my LightRoom. LOL.
Thanks for the info. I'll still keep an eye on Aftershot Pro.

After a short visit I have moved onto DxO Optics Pro 6 as I didn't see any point throwing my time in learning how to use ASP after my wasted money.

I also said "bye" to AfterShot. I bought it well over a year ago I think. I bought it mainly because it's cross-platform and I thought it would be a good long-term investment. I figured that Corel would support it for decades, much like CorelDraw or WordPerfect. When I finally got around to learning how to use it, I was really impressed. But I was disappointed with the catalogue and key-wording features were quite poor and unreliable, and because it appeared that AfterShot had been abandoned, I decided to jump-ship sooner than later.
I tried DXO Optic 7 and was far more impressed. But DXO Optics could not process my old Olympus E-1 images and so I bought PhotoNinja yielded astonishing results very quickly- far better than I could get from a huge amount of fiddling around in AfterShot Pro. Although DXO Optics seemed superior to Aftershot in my trials, it still needed many manual adjustments. PhotoNinja's auto-processing seems to be far more accurate to achieve the type of image I like and it required less tweaking.
If Corel were to release AfterShot Pro 2 and it was amazing, had great DAM capabilities, came in Linux native-version, and Corel seemed totally committed to it, I'd happily buy it knowing that I could stick with it for years. But until that happens, I'm going to be using PhotoNinja and Imatch5.
Corel could be offering amazing products, but for some reason, they are not. I hope this situation will improve. Increasingly closed and restrictive OS licenses in Windows and Mac, along with endless hacking and virus problems in Windows might drive more people towards Linux. Aftershot has a good opportunity to establish itself in the Linux market, however small it may be now.
Corel is still a Canadian company that helps push forward the tech industry in Canada-- something I like to support

So Corel lost Noise Ninja and now its users are dumping ASP for PhotoNinja... Textbook example of how to lose your customers, destroy the value of your acquisition, and doom a promising product... and all in one year. Now that takes incompetance.

Photo Ninja for me. Great product that actually works on most new cameras.

Trying different options
First up Capture one pro ---- NO PINK HIGHLIGHTS
That's not a Corel problem -- it's been there forever, though improved

Re: Sick of waiting. Goodbye. You lost a customer.
A quick trial of Ninja
Its pink highlights on OLY burnout are worse than ASP and it does some weird things with exposure - default on some images seems about 2 stops darker than ASP or capture.
It looks quite good on straight forward images but ....
So a definite no no.

Re: Sick of waiting. Goodbye. You lost a customer.
very taken with Capture one but I would miss the manipulation capabilities of ASP
In ASP you can apply almost any function through a mask... it seems more limited in C1
I think I may end up using ASP for most and C1 for contre-jour and others with burn out ( .... until ASP fixes highlights )

Re: Sick of waiting. Goodbye. You lost a customer.
Bitten the bullet and bought Capture One Pro.
On highlight recovery it is far better than ASP - it's pseudo-HDR function seems quite well behaved - pulling in sky detail that ASP doesn't see (or makes pink).
I can't switch completely as I would miss cloning to get rid of bright objects in the wrong places... and several plugins such as zPerspector's reflect function - and my presets!
So I am working with both while I wait to see if Corel fix highlights.

some time ago i noticed that the pink highlight is dependent on the color temp set to the image. as work around you might try to change the skys temp (and maybe tint) as a region to fix the pink color...gareth wrote:So I am working with both while I wait to see if Corel fix highlights.
