Slide jitters or alternative problems?

Post by Don F »

Greetings lata, Ken and everyone. I've been away... I'm back and doing a master rendering but am getting strange results. I hope someone is familiar with this weirdness... I'll try to make this concise:
* I've created slides in CorelDraw (all 300 DPI) to go with video clips and am also using titles (none straight out of the box) as both overlaid titles and captions in video clips.
* Rendering to HDV 1080i - 60i (for PC) or maximum quality with MPEG optimizer makes my slides (and some titles) jitter and jump in the master rendering.
* Rendering to any MPEG format makes my slides too fuzzy to read even though they look great scrubbing through the timeline.
* Rendering to WMV HD 1080 30P gives great results (crisp & clean) except the issue (not a problem) of audio for video lag while playing back in various Windows viewers. The issue here is that a lot of information is being processed... the good rendering is 1.06 GB/ 14 minutes duration (this is not the problem but it's source may be food for thought).
* Creating DVDs from the WMV HD master works well but here's the problem; 1) Some transitions and titles look as if they didn't render properly with DVD player/ HDTV playback. 2) Playing the same DVD in Windows (various players) everything including transitions and titles play perfectly but I get a little random jitter on my slides.

I haven't found a solution to get a "middle of the road" DVD copy of my master that plays well on any equipment and software. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Don / Sarah

A standard DVD uses Mpeg2 type files.

Your images should be 16:9 aspect ratio to fill the screen.

After editing/creating the project you should convert / render to Mpeg2, then use this file to burn the disc.
To create the video file use Share Create Video File DVD Slideshow ( I assume 16:9)
Choosing the slideshow option is more appropriate for still amages as the template will use Frame Based rather than interlacing.

If you wish to use Digital Dolby as your audio option you will have to create your own template using Settings - Make Movie Templates Manager. The template being available via Share Create Video File adjacent to the Custom option.
If you do not wish to make your own template then use the Custom option.

Once the Mpeg2 file has been created play using your favourite media player to check quality
To burn the disc
Start a new project, nothing in the timeline
Share Create disc DVD—opens the burner module
Add Media Files—adding your Mpeg2 video file.

From the last window choose to create a Disc Image rather than a disc. This will save the file to your hard drive, I play the disc image using VLC Media Player. Satisfied with the quality I use Tools Burn from Disc image ISO to burn the disc.

Don, you are in the US and your settings will use NTSC standards
Sarah being in NZ will use Pal

Other than that nothing changes

Thanks so much Trevor. I'll follow your instructions tonight. Perhaps you've answered this question for a wider audience than Sarah and Don. The only issue I've had is that rendering to MPG2 gives me poor resolution on the slides. I'll try this and tell you of the results.

Regards,
Don

Thanks Trevor. Rather than an MPG2 I began by dragging my existing WMV master into the empty timeline. Scrubbing through it there were tons of playback problems but it rendered perfectly as an MPG2 using the procedure you described. Thanks again.
