WINDVD PRO 11 RUNTIME ERROR

Post by wynni2 »

Hello -

My copy of WinDVD Pro 11 was working normally until about 2days ago, when it began showing the following error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:C:\ProgramFiles\Corel\WinDVD11\WinDVD11.exe
This program has asked the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Basically when I open the program from a shortcut, the .exe file, or by auto-playing a Blu-Ray, the Corel "splash" screen appears, and then the program gives this error message and closes (frequently my Windows taskbar time/date also disappears).
I haven't made any large changes to my system apart from installing "important" Windows updates from Microsoft. WinDVD was working fine the last time I watched a Blu-Ray (about 1week ago), and again, the problem started 2days ago.

I have tried the following:
1) Ran a full virus scan
2) Updated my video drivers
3) Updated the latest version of DirectX
4) I uninstalled and reinstalled the 2005, 2008, and 2012 versions of Microsoft Visual C++.
5) I uninstalled and reinstalled Corel WinDVD Pro11 (same error message)
6) I tried applying the most recent (SP1) update for WinDVD Pro 11 and received a notice that I did have an updataeble version of the software installed.
6) I did a series of "clean boots": First, I disabled all startup programs and rebooted (same issue), then I disabled all non-Microsoft services except Protexis (required service to run WinDVD) and rebooted (same error), and then I disabled all services (including Microsoft services) except Protexis, and had the same error.
Even with NO startup programs and NO system services running, there was still the same Visual C++ runtime error.
7) During one of the "clean boots" I uninstalled WinDVD using Revo Uninstaller and cleaned out the registry entries, restarted another "clean boot" and re-installed WinDVD.

Anyway, is there anything else I should try before I cut my losses and buy a new Blu Ray player? I'm not interested in reinstalling Windows, and I'm definitely not interested in paying Corel for customer support for help with a faulty piece of software.

Thanks.
