Manage tab "preview" quit working

Post by JSF1000 »

PSPX5 on a Win7 machine.

I've been using this program a long time. Been using this setup for almost a year. Suddenly, the "preview" pane of the the "manage" tab has just quit working. It's whited out. I click on a thumbnail and the image info shows on the side pane, but the main frame just remains white. I've tried restarting the machine, to no avail. I can try uninstalling and reinstalling, but would rather not. Wondering if anyone has any experience with this problem.

Thanks in advance

I have X4, not X5, but something like that happened to me a while ago. In the Manage tab there are two possible views: one with a thumbnail palette along the bottom with large preview window, and a second with a window full of thumbnails (sizable, columns and rows of thumbnails) with a smaller preview window.

Have you tried switching to the other view to see if the preview works there, and then back again to your preferred view? That worked for me anyway.

If that doesn't work, under File/Preferences there's a 'Reset Preferences...' dialogue, you might try that. You may have to restart the program to see results.

If that and nothing else works, instead of uninstalling and re-installing try holding down the shift key when you start PSP. You'll get the question if you want to reset PSP to defaults (or something like that). Click yes and PSP will start, configured as it was at installation. You'll lose any workspace customizations etc. but you saved those already, right?

Good luck.

Have you tried selecting and deselecting in the menu view/palettes/preview? Or is that what is "whited out"? If so, try resetting as Forriner suggests.

Has a solution to this problem been found? I installed PSP X6 trial version on my wife's laptop and she can't see any pictures in the preview workspace whether she is in thumbnail or single view. We've tried bot the 64 and 32 bit versions with the same results. Her laptop meets the minimum requirements listed (4GB RAM, etc.). I installed it on my laptop and everything seems to work. I've tried installing it with my firewall turned off. Nothing seems to work. For now, this is the only problem we see (manage tab preview not working). Thanks.

I've seen posts from others who have never used this type of program experiencing the same problem. Have you gone into "Navigator" and selected a directory (folder) that contains pictures? If the program starts up with a default directory that does not contain any photos there will not be any thumbnails showing.

Yes, I've selected a folder and can see the thumbnails in one pane. When I select a thumbnail, the preview panel stays blank. I never get anything in the preview pane.

Did you ever get this solved? I'm experiencing it now.

Found a workaround. Changing the theme to Windows 7 Basic solves the problem.

BTW: this was in my Acer Aspire laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.
