unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
I have been getting a lot of unspecified errors 5.0.0 when burning a clip. I have tried doing what is listed at " http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e... 000000L49K". That link tells me to set the record speed to the lowest setting but it will not let me do that. It appears to be set on max and is blocked so that I cannot change it. This seems to be happening most of the time with dual layer dvds but also happen with regular length ones. I have gotten one to work and it says project complete except it will not play on my dvd player. I have also updated the dvd burner to the latest firmware and driver. I have also updated afCvtTitleMenuRenderUnit.dll as listed elsewhere. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Re: unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
Hi
As far as I know the record speed is governed by the type of disc you use.
Changing the disc type will / may allow you to select the rate, at least that is what I get when using different discs.
When you burn a DVD are you first creating a video file of the project, then use the Mpeg2 file to burn the disc, Using this method the burn process does not render the files again.
With your project open in the timeline are you able to Share Create Video File – DVD.
If you have problems doing that then there is something wrong with the project.
If you Share Create Disc with the project open in the timeline then the process has to create the Mpeg 2 prior to burning the disc (Convert Title). It may be this process that is causing the problem?
By the way I am unable to open the link to the post, can you provide the link again.

Trevor -- that Knowledgebase article is http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... 000000KzjM Even though it has a final set of numbers different from the OP's -- I think that is just the effect of Corel's contraction software!!
The other things it suggests to check are also DirectX updates and updates for the graphics card...

Re: unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
Sorry the link did not work. This is what was on that page.
When burning a project on to a physical digital media disc using VideoStudio Pro X5, the "Unspecified error 5.0.0" appears AT THE END of the burning process (when it reaches the "closing" disc or when it reach the 99% completion).
Unspecified Error 5.0.0
Result: You may be able to play the digital media disc on your computer but it will not play on standalone DVD/Blu-ray Players.
Here are the troubleshooting steps when you encounter this error:
It is recommended that multiple programs are not running while burning a project to disc to prevent burning errors and to increase your computer's performance.
Before burning the project on to a disc, at the last stage of Create Disc window, click on "More settings for burning" icon to launch the "burning options" window. Select the optical disc burner drive that will be used for burning, and then reduce the burning speed of your project. Use the lowest possible burning speed (2x or 4x if possible). In the Advanced Settings, check or enable "Test before burning" and "Buffer underrun protection".
Use external hard drives or optical disc drives for data backup only; we strongly recommend you use internal hard drive / optical drive devices when editing videos, since external devices may create a data bottleneck. You need to have the fastest hard drive on your computer dedicated to capturing, editing, exporting, and burning your videos on to a digital media disc.
Disconnect any external devices attached to the computer such as External USB Hard drives and External Optical disc burner drive devices:
First export the project as MPEG-2 video file using MPEG Optimizer directly to the Users folder in the default or primary hard drive (C:\) or to the fastest hard drive.
Use the internal optical disc burner drive attached on your computer to burn the project on to a physical disc.
Update your optical disc burner drive with its latest firmware; this will improve reading / writing performance and increase the range of blank media supported. Please take note however, that this is a highly sensitive procedure. First check the Optical Drive manufacturer's website for any available firmware update for your Optical Drive model. If there's no specific update, there is an ASPI update generally available, but please contact your Optical Drive's tech support line for assistance, or it may cause complications.
You may need to change your optical drive writer hardware to a newer one.
As I said I did everything except changing the record speed. When I capture the clip I am capturing it as DVD and saving as a mpg video clip. When I open the project in the timeline when I right click on it the properties says it is a MPG-2 file. I have the latest direct x video card drivers. This usually only happens when I am using a dual layer DVD and not very ofter on the standard DVD. I have been using DVD+R DL while the standard DVD is a DVD-R. I guess I will go buy some DVD-R DL and see how that works. By the way has the newer version of Video Studio solved any of these problem? Thanks

Re: unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
Do you get the error if, on the final page of the burning module, you de-select 'Create Disc' and choose instead 'Create DVD Folder'? This will create the exact structure you would find on an actual disc. If it works, you can simply copy it, using Windows, to a DVD -- though personally, to be on the safe side, I use a burning program like Nero to do this.
The advantage of first creating a folder is that you can then play it in a software media player to be sure everything is right. It also later allows you to burn as many copies as you like.

Re: unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
Hi
Thanks Ken for the new link and ottersea for the details.
Ottersea, can you try Kens suggestion in creating a DVD Folder or in fact a Disc Image, either will run through the burner process without actually burning a disc, this will save a few discs as you won’t be making those coasters.
You should be able to play both on the PC to check quality. I use VLC Player
The Disc image can be burned to disc using VS 5 or 6. (Tools -- Burn from Disc Image Iso) I always use this method.
I always use the disc image approach to burn my discs.

Re: unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
Some confusion. I have been creating the disc without having the clip in the timeline in the edit mode. I have been going to the share/create disc/dvd/add videostudio projects and going from there. I had problems creating a disc from the timeline so am creating this way. Also in the last step before burning the only options are create to disc and normalize audio. There is no create to dvd. I am using X4 version so do not have that option.

Hi ottersea
From the last window if you do not see these options, press the two arrows.
One question, as you are burning a compliant mpeg2, when you hit the burn button the process should start with Convert Menu. Is this correct?
If it starts with Convert Title then the video is being rendered.
Providing you have not set Normalise Audio, which will also Convert title..

Okay I see the Create DVD folders option now. When I am burning the dvd the first thing it does is "converting video of the title". I will try the create dvd folder. When I right click on the video clip in the edit timeline it say that it is a mpg-2 file.

Re: unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
Hi
Ok lets run through a work flow.
Return to your project, immediately after editing.
1 / Share Create video File – DVD should create a single video file, a compliant Mpeg2 suitable to burn a disc. The file should be under 4.3 GB.
4GB would leave a little spare for creating menus.
The process should complete without errors, if there are problems then it is the content of the projects timelines.
Assuming you are successful…..
2 / Start a NEW project, nothing in the timeline
3 / Share Create Disc, opens the burner module
4 / Add Media –Add Video File, add the video file created in 1 above
5 / Create a menu
6 / do not normalise audio.
7 / the lower size bar showing in green should NOT show yellow or red
8 / when you hit the burn button the process will start with Convert Menu
There will be no convert Title as the Mpeg has already been made.

Re: unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
I would add a new item between 3 and 4 of Trevor's workflow. After opening the burning module, click on the Options cogwheel icon in the bottom left of the burning screen, and make sure that the box beside "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" is ticked. It is by default, but who knows whether for some other project you unticked it.
And a footnote to Trevor's Step 1. If your project is an hour or less, the choosing Share > Create Video File > DVD will create the compliant mpeg-2 file which will fit on a single layer 4.3 GB DVD. If, however, it is (much) longer than 1 hour, then you would need to use Share > Create Video File > Custom, choose MPEG as the format and go into the Options dialogue box > Compression tab, to lower the bitrate from the default 8000 kbps. As a rule of thumb, a 90 minute project would need a bitrate of around 6000 kbps to produce a 4 Gb file which would fit on a single layer DVD; and a 2 hour project would require a bitrate of 4000 kbps.

Re: unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
I tried using the above to create a dvd. I have a couple of questions. When editing the video, which is 2hr8min long, the finished product in the save folder shows it as 4.21G. When I have it in the edit module it shows it as 4.4G and when in the final create module it shows it as 4.6G. So in the final create burn module I have a bit of yellow showing in the size bar. Does this have to be all green? I used a bit rate of 3400 initially to make the video file. How does one know what bit rate to use other than trial and error? Thanks

Re: unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
The yellow means that the video will not fit on the DVD.
I would not even try to put a 128 minute video on a standard DVD unless you are willing to accept poor quality of your video. Remember that a standard 4.7GB DVD can only hold 60 minutes of video at best quality (a bit rate of ~ 8000kbps). As was mentioned for longer videos the bitrate has to be reduced and you lose quality the more you try to squeeze on the DVD.

Re: unspecified error 5.0.0 in burning module
Hi ottersea
Yes it has to be in the green.
I agree with canuck regarding the 128 minutes to a standard DVD. That’s a lot and the quality is gonna suffer, but give it a go to view the quality.
At 4.2 Gb you are on the limit for a disc, try using a Thumbnail Menu Template.
Smart Scenes use a lot of memory., it may just reduce the scale into the Green.
You mentioned earlier using Dual Layer discs, I have to say that I have not had any success using these discs.
Disc sizing 4.3 GB = 4.7GB
Memory 1K = 1000 --- Or 1K = 1024 which is correct, well both are.
Depends whether you are buying or selling the hard drive?
Knowing what data rate to use is trial and error, we can give guidelines, being a variable rate the file size can change dependent on the action of the movie, a slide show would be smaller than a fast action video. Variable data rate applies more memory to the fast action sections and less to the static areas.
Constant rate would be easier to calculate, I use this for higher data rates over 6000kbps where the video will fit to disc.
There are bit rate calculators that will help, do a google search.
