PSP X5 Button icons are wrong

Post by dondean »

Shortly after I loaded PSP X5 on my computer, the picture icons on the buttons in the docking workspace changed and I don't know why. These are the icons at the top and bottom of the Docking area where I work with Layers and also have several other items docked.

I am using PSP X5 version 15.2.0.12

Across the top are the icons for " Edit Selection, Show/Hide Layer effects, Link/Unlink, Lock/Unlock, and Layer Styles".

Across the bottom are the icons for "New Layer, New Adjustment Layer, New Mask Layer, New Layer Group, Delete Layer, and General Preferences".

As you can see, all the icon pictures on the top are incorrect and the first three icons on the bottom are incorrect, although the last three icons on the bottom are correct.

I am also running a separate copy of PSP X4 and the icons show correctly in it.

Anyone have any ideas as to why these icon pictures might be showing incorrectly.
It's not a big deal, but it makes me nervous that if this not correct, then there might be something else not working correctly with the program.

Thanks.

I've had that happen a few times. Re-setting the Preferences cured it:
Hold down your Shift key when clicking the icon to launch PSP and answer "Yes" to the prompt to restore the Preferences to the defaults.

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done...
Just take everything out on Highway 61.

This has been going on for quite some time, is completely random and thus very hard to fix.

Thanks a bunch Ken, I did this and it solved the problem.
I then reloaded the workspace that I was using and it came up with the correct icons.
But the keyboard shortcuts I had defined were lost and will also have to redefine my other general preferences.

So the decision I'll have to make each time is "do I want to have the correct icons show and redefine my preferences", or "can I live with the incorrect icons".

Just curious. How or where did you find out about using the shift key when starting PSP. I'd like to know more of these nifty little tricks and the PSP "help information" seems pretty slim to me.

Thanks for the link Kathy. I did a search on "button icons" and "button pictures" before I made this post but did not find anything related.
How did you find the topic for the link you posted.

Yep, that's the drawback to re-setting the Preferences. Unfortunately, there are some things that can't be corrected without correcting corrupted Preferences. :( The way I look at it is the same thing you mentioned -- if I can see something that's wrong, there's probably other stuff I can't see that are bad, too, so I re-set 'em to be safe....

At least with PSP, I've found that I only had to do that a couple of times. Hopefully yours will stay stable for a long time, too.

I don't remember. It was probably mentioned in one of the Knowledge base articles on Corel's Web site.

I remembered posting in a thread a while back about an issue I had with my layers palette icons changing so I searched on "layers palette icons change" and it immediately pulled up my old post.
