Mono to Surround

Post by cheryle »

I did research this in the forums and found the explanation of using "Duplicate Audio Channel".

But, when I click on the audio, with the yellow around it, click on attributes, the Duplicate Audio Channel is grayed out and not available. It does not matter what video I bring in, this option is not available.

Please help, I had to pull down my videos for my business after finding out the problems people were having listening to it, and that is not good when I am trying to promote Corel products.

Thank you,

Cheryl

It is a little unusual these days to have video with only mono audio, though of course it does exist. However, we would be only guessing as to what format your video is. So could you please right click one of the video clips -- making sure you do it within Video Studio, either in the timeline or in the VS library window -- and copy ALL its properties here please. Then we might have a better idea what to suggest.

As a test, I just inserted a mono .mov file (in fact an mp4 using the mov extension) into the VS timeline. Highlighting the clip immediately activated the Duplicate function and I could tick it and then choose which channel to duplicate.

However, it could be that your video uses a format (probably the audio part) which causes VS trouble, and it might need converting to -- say -- mov format before you can duplicate the audio.

Thank you for your response Ken. Here are 2 different videos I have tried:

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

2nd One - right from the camera using a mic that clips on, I could not copy the properties:

Quick Time Movie Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Sound: 16-bit Little Endian
48,000 Khz, 16 bits, Stereo

I hope that helps, if you need more information then let me know.

Thank you,

Cheryl

The option to duplicate audio does not become available until you click to tick the little square box to the left of the words "Duplicate audio channel".

OK and thanks for the properties so far. It makes no sense that you have mono audio when both sources report stereo. So what is your output format?

Can you also tell us why you could not copy the Properties of the second type of video, I assume from within VS? If not, where did you get the Properties?

Hi Ken,

There had to have been a glitch in the system. The problem still existed this morning, and I was going to make a quick video to show you the problem when the system crashed. Now everything is working. I have no idea why there has been a problem for the last week - I have done nothing different except after the crash it is all back.

At least it is working now :D.

Thank you,

Cheryl
