Can this also be done in PSP X3

Post by roelof »

Hello,

I found this Photoshop tutorial : http://cs5.photoshopatoms.com/basic/cre ... oshop-cs5/

And I wonder if I can make this in PSP X3 also.

Yes it can, but there would have to be a few small changes made to account for the differences between Photoshop and PSP.

For example, PSP does not let you convert a selection to a path. Instead you would have to start with an actual vector rectangle path and edit it. This is easy. But I don't have the time to think it through to describe properly. After work if someone else hasn't posted a tutorial I'll whip one up.

Next the layer styles drop shadow, the same settings won't work but you can play around with it to get the look you want.

Finally there is creating the new selection from the pages that it demonstrates. PSP probably won't be able to select both pages like that but it's easy enough to work around.

After that most of the steps are the same or very similar.

I was sure someone would come up with a tutorial of their own to show you before I had a chance. :D

Okay so hopefully this isn't too confusing, I've caught a cold and am quickly becoming incoherent. And if it is then hopefully this video isn't: http://youtu.be/24YJRC3ADqo

1) Create new blank image

2) First start out by creating the first page using the rectangle tool. Just drag out the shape of the first page.
Settings: Create As Vector
Stroke Width: 1

3) With the rectangle, you've just created, selected go to the top menu and select Objects -> Convert to Path. This will convert the rectangle to something we can edit with our Pen tool.

4) Grab the Pen tool and create a new node to create the page curve. Just hover the cursor over the line of the rectangle, then holding the CTRL key and the cursor will turn to an "+Add" symbol under the cursor. Click on the line and a new node will be created at that spot.

5) Repeat, on the bottom edge.

6) Pull the top node up, and the bottom node down as far as you want the edge to extend.

7) Right-click on each node, and select Node Type -> Symmetrical. This will make the nodes curve.

8 ) Select each node one by one again, and you'll see some control handles appear. These handles control how big or small the curve is. Drag the control handles toward the node to decrease the size of the curve, pull it away to increase the size of the curve.

9) Once you have the initial look the way you want, it's time to add the Drop Shadow Layer Style. Right-click on the vector layer and select "Properties." The Properties dialog should pop up and you can select "Layer Styles" tab.

10) Turn on the Drop Shadown effect and make it look how you want.

11) Duplicate the page layer, then use the pick tool to nudge the page up and the left ever so slightly. You can adjust the layer style to be smaller if you'd like.

12) Repeate step 11 for each page you want in the book.

13) Create a group layer. Drag all of the pages into the group.

14) Duplicate the group.

15) Use Image -> Mirror to flip the pages across the canvas. Then use the Move tool to nudge it into place.

16) There are a number of ways to handle the shading. Including using a gradient. The video shows how I did the selection. But you can do anything you want.
