Location of Temp Folders

Post by Lobalobo »

Having just installed Video Studio Pro X6 on a Windows 8 laptop, I have what may be a basic question about the folders the software creates automatically on installation. (If this topic has been addressed on this forum, I apologize that my search did not come up with an answer to my questions.)

By default, installation of the VS Pro X6 software placed in my C drive's Documents folder a folder called Corel Video Studio Pro along with a subfolder called 16.0 (and, I believe, a subfolder called My Projects, though it's conceivable that I added the My Projects subfolder manually and just forgot); the 16.0 subfolder contains a subfolder called DMF_TEMP, which, in turn, contains additional subfolders. After creating just a few short movies, the DMF_TEMP folders and subfolders already contain almost 4GB of data, and I worry about the folders eventually overwhelming my internal hard drive capacity. So I have two questions:

First, will the software eventually remove the presumably temporary files stored under DMF_TEMP, thus also removing concern about taxing my internal drive's storage capacity?

Second, is it possible without loss of simple functionality to configure VS Pro X6 so that the entire Video Studio Pro folder, along with its 16.0 and other subfolders, resides on an external hard drive, with much larger capacity?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

My C drive's Documents folder a folder called Corel Video Studio Pro

This folder is required by the program and as far as I know cannot be moved without affecting the programs functionality. As you have noticed contains several folders, I will try to give a run down on them

16.0 folder is the “Working Folder for the Burning / Authoring module”, Share Create Disc. You should not move this folder but can allocate another Working Folder location via the Burner window Share Create Disc, press F6

DMF_Temp etc are associated in burning a DVD, temp files are created during the render process, (Create Title) these are usually deleted after use but some may remain, you can delete the contents of these folders. However I think they will be overwritten for future dvd’s, so the max size about 4.3 Gb for a standard DVD?
From the last window to burn the disc there is an icon far right “Delete Temporary file in the Working Folder.

16.0 contains other folders

Favourites Folder, holds DVD Menu templates customised by you, only shows after creating the first template.

Smart Proxy is used to store Proxy Files used with HD type video, these can be quite large, You can allocate a new location for this folder. Settings Smart Proxy Manager.

My Projects” folder was created by the program, is the default location for saving your projects, I don’t use this folder but save my projects in a dedicated folder, one created for each movie. File –Save or Save As and choose your own location.

VSPTemplatesThese are the Instant Projects installed after downloading from Do-More, will be created after the first template install. You cannot move this folder.
VSPPathStyle, not sure but don’t think you can move this either.

If you allocate a different location for your working folders, that location must be available when running the program otherwise you will have problems.

A lot going on here so if you have a specific issue with any individual folder then let us know.

Note also that there are two places where you set the working folder (wherever you want it). The first is in the the Editing module under Preferences. But the second is in the burning module and can be found in the first of the icons in the bottom left of screen: Settings and Options > Preferences. The two working folders are by default that same sub-folder in Documents. But if you change the first, and want all working files associated with a project to go elsewhere, you need to change the second as well.
