Hi Ken,

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Could you post the settings you used for AVCHD?

The camera was brand new from a local super store, I've checked the box but there's no supporting CD/DVD.

I'm just doing another NTSC DVD test then I'll have another go, but this time as a AVCHD.

Thanks.

TGG.

Could you post the settings you used for AVCHD?
After editing, you choose Share > Create Video File > Custom. In the dialogue box which appears, in the Save As Type window select MPEG Transport Stream (*.m2t).

In the new dialogue box which appears, click on the Compression tab. At the very top, change 'Media Type' to NTSC HDMV. Then below that, change the Video Format to H.264 video and tick the AVCHD box below that. Change the bitrate to, say, 16,000 kbps. Go back to the General tab and make sure that 1920 x 1080 is selected, as well as Frame Based under 'Frame Type'. Then click out. Give the file a name and proceed.

Incidentally, since you mentioned DVD, I have just converted one of the files to an NTSC DVD-compatible mpeg-2, again using Frame Based. (And before you ask, I used the same procedure as above, only selecting 'MPEG' as the format.) And the result was not too bad. Try it for yourself and see if it is OK...

Hi Ken,

That's great :-)

I'll give both formats a whirl and let you know the outcome.

Many thanks for your time on this.

Cheers.

Hi
Thanks for the samples, strange things happening here, still think it may be the Baseline and 1920 frame size that VS cannot replicate.

Like Ken I am having problems, this is what I found so far.

Project properties set as Pal
When I do Share Create Video File – Same as First Video I see these settings in the save window, however when I press save the window simply closes with not new files being rendered. Does this happen to you.
Project properties set as NTSC and I get a warning “frame cannot be trimmed” as posted by TGG earlier

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Baseline Profile Video: 16789 Kbps, 16:9
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 256 Kbps

Very Strange……….
I tried re-naming to MOV no go…….

I rendered to Share Create Video File - Mpeg4 HD, the new file seemed ok to me and played as good as original.

MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 15000 Kbps
32000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

Finally a render to Mpeg2 for a DVD Disc and that also looked ok

Share Create Video File Same as Project Properties as :-

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: 8000 kbps
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

Thanks a million Trevor and Lata!

After using your suggested settings, I finally produced a video I'm happy with :)

My only problem now is I've just found my Cyclone Media player doesn't play m2t's! :S It play's just about everything else (mp4, mkv etc etc) but at least I've got a good quality DVD.

Many thanks again for your time.

Regards.
