Cache & settings

Post by FalCT60 »

Hello,

I have ASP installed on 2 PCs (my main one, plus a laptop running Ubuntu for 2 days now).
Since the beginning, I have been keeping all the settings (plugins, cache, etc.) on the same disk which holds the photos.
To avoid misunderstanding : I have created a folder on to the external disk in which I have copied the data, then I have set the preferences so that the user folder and the catalog are searched to in that location.
This way, whatever can happen, I reinstall and can retrieve my config with zero effort.
When playing with Ubuntu, last day, I went facing a problem that I had never thought about before : the cache was reset by the new installation.
Is there a way to avoid this ?

Thanks in advance,

J.-L.

Hi,

i dont think that this is possible and its realy better. To clean the cache is often the solution of bugs. A new installed system should not use settings from previous installations.
Are the settings in the cache?

Hello,

Fortunately, the settings aren't in the cache. But the cache is into the folder where the settings point to.
Having a separate path for the cache would be a good thing IMO. Now that I have played with Ubuntu version, it has totally reset the cache, which means that I'll have to recreate it on the main computer. :?

I have a slightly different option: I have ASP both on my desktop and my travel laptop, I created a folder on Dropbox where I moved some of the folders and files of my ".AfterShotPro": plugins, copysets, presets, hotkeys and custom menus but not the cache folder. Then I created links from these folders from Dropbox to the profile folder of my desktop and laptop, I had zero issues with this setup and have everything I want synced between the two machines.

Hi,
on ASP v1.2.0.7, I am still unable to clean the cache other than deleting the 'cache' folder itself. Holding the Shift key while starting ASP still doesn't work on Linux.
Any feedback?
Thanks in advance.

I guess that SHIFT thingy will never work on Linux, because the startup concept is totally different.

Oh I see. Well, that's too bad.
So, the only way is to keep deleting the cache folder manually?

Maybe some script would work, as an alternative starter?

Just an Idea.

Yup.
Even on Windows, I consider it more reliable anyway.
