VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate Not Launching

Post by lilkel38 »

I have recently uninstalled and reinstalled Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate on my Windows 7 laptop and now the program won't launch. I was having an issue with posting to FB and rendering video and before I found the SP2 patch on the website, I figured an uninstall/reinstall would fix my problem. But, it has made things worse since I can't even use it now. So, here's what I have done...I uninstalled the software, cleaned the registry and reinstalled...twice. When I launch the software, the splash screen comes up and even the main editing screen comes up, but it immediately goes white and has a Windows error box that says that the program has stopped working correctly...I've looked on this forum and found posts talking about some browser extension causing problems-Browser Manager,BrowserProtect, Babylon-and have checked my system and do not have any of the extensions mentioned anywhere that I can find. Ran CCleaner and Spybot. And of course, my software just went out of it's 90 day free support period, I am at a loss...Any Ideas for why I now cannot launch the program after a *simple* uninstall/reinstall??

Welcome to the forums!

Have you tried right-clicking on the VS icon and choosing 'Run as Administrator'?

Hi...Yes, I have tried running as administrator with same result. Have also tried launching from the executable file in the program files folder to see if the shortcuts might be bad.

Also, if it helps to diagnose the problem...when I launch the program and the red/black VideoStudio dialog box comes up another box comes up behind it...white filled box that says DIM dialog...then another Windows warning box comes up and says the DIM dialog has stopped working properly. I am really just confused as to why the program worked properly from the original install I did back in January until last week when I created a video and chose to "share" via Facebook. That did not work and it crashed the program and then subsequent attempts to render the project with other settings would not complete. An uninstall/reinstall with cleaned registry should have put it back to useable. Pretty expensive software to be rendered useless without making any other changes to my system. I loved this software when I tried it via the trial version, it is the only software out there with a simple way to render my AVCHD files and keep them with the same quality at output as they came in with. Any help to get the software working again would be so very much appreciated.

In an effort to provide as much info as possible (not trying to over-post)...I also have a bunch of dump files that I cannot open if you can interpret them. 6 of them are DIM.EXE.xxxx.dmp where the xxxx are sets of 4 numbers=5752, 5912, 6912, 7340, 7880, 8076. And 2 that are vstudio.exe.xxxx.dmp the numbers there are 7196 and 7976.

Hi

Dmp files are of little use to us, we cannot open them, and if we could probably wouldn’t understand them.

When you re-installed the program I assumed you removed all personal files.
Try re-setting the program to its defaults, but from what you have said would have covered this, worth a try though.

How to manually reset Corel® VideoStudio Pro X6 to Default Settings

Otherwise
Can you try running the program in XP compatibility mode, right click the VS icon on the desktop and choose properties—Compatibility tab.

Tried resetting to factory defaults per the link provided. Still will not launch. The small VS splash box comes up with the silver bar flashing at the bottom like it's loading...then the program opens to the edit screen and goes transparent white and Windows box pops up and says the program has stopped working, says it's looking for a fix on the internet, never finds anything and then the box pops that says the program has stopped working correctly and to close the program. Also tried running in compatibility mode per your instruction...same result. What's funny is that I went and installed the program on my desktop unit and it installed fine and is working properly...but not my laptop which it was installed on and working properly on a week ago. The systems both have very similar components.

Does Corel have an uninstaller program for VS that I could run to make sure all pieces are off my system before I reinstall? I followed the instruction online for manual uninstall and went through my registry to remove all traces (that I could find) of VS and it's effect packs (Prodad, boris graffiti, etc.) before I tried the reinstall.

Can I try reinstalling in safe mode?

The attachment is a zipped X5 cleanup tool - download , unzip and then run it to remove all traces of X5.

The other thing that has worked for some users at least is to create a new User Profile in Windows. Then log-on using that profile and install VS. If it launches correctly, you can then delete the new profile and the installation should continue to work.

I am having the same issue. Installed VS Pro X5 Ultimate in March and it ran fine. Just started it this morning and got the same error - as well as several DMP files. I have uninstalled and re-installed several times. I used the cleanup tool specified and it did not help.

Hi Jim

Are you saying that Video Studio just does not start, or that it runs and displays a white screen as mentioned by lilkel38
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 47#p270797

If the program does not launch then check the problem regarding “Browser manager”, "Babylon" or "BrowserProtect"

lilkel38 / Jim

There have been some problems associated with Graphics Drivers, updating has cured problems, check your graphics driver status. For me a windows optional update cured my driver problem associated with a lenervo laptop.

The actual message - which comes up right after the splash screen is - The program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped working. My system is up to date with all the latest patches including video driver as well as the Video Studio patches. I tried changing compatibility mode but no dice. I create a new account as suggested but that did nothing.

The problem was BrowserProtect. Once I removed it everything worked. Thanks.
