Hello, I'm using VideoStudio Pro X4 to edit MP4 videos that I record with my GoPro camera. Whenever I edit and save the project to my PC it never looks as good as it did before I edited the video files. It even looks worse after I upload to YouTube (not sure why this happens with YT). What would be the best settings to edit and save the videos in? I would prefer to keep them in the MP4 format but want them to remain sharp and brilliant after edit or upload.
Thank you for any advice you can share.

Hello Tim
And welcome to the forums.
Can you provide some details of the properties of your video files, right click a clip on the timeline and select properties, create an image of the window to attach to your post or simply type in the details.
Now tell us what options you are using to convert the video.
I do not have a Go Pro but I think Ken has the same / similar camera and should be able to help.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X4 - Settings For GoPro?
I have the Hero 3 Black Edition. However, I have never posted to YouTube so can't help with settings for that. More generally, though, I have had no trouble whatsoever in editing, then simply choosing Share > Create Video File > Same As First Clip. The quality remains as good as the original -- or even better in the sense that I usually have to apply the Mercalli stabilisation filter to at least some of the video to eradicate camera shake. I have also recently bought the proDad proDrenalin program which is a stand-alone stabiliser and also, importantly removes the fish eye effect on Hero footage taken with the lens wide open setting.
Otherwise, I have also included Hero footage in projects containing HDV, and rendered to either HDV or, more regularly, Blu-Ray transport stream mpeg-2. Again the quality of the Hero footage in such projects does not seem to lessen in the final product.
As a footnote, I play all of these various types of output via a USB stick drive plugged into my PlayStation 3 which is connected via HDMI to my 46 inch full HD Samsung HDTV. So I would certainly be able to detect any quality degradation if it were there...

I'm not converting any files to any other format (If I am understanding your question correctly) I want to keep them as a MP4 file. I was converting them for a while to .AVI but the outcome was terrible, the video when I was done looked terrible. I then found the fix for my VideoStudio and was able to see and edit MP4 files/videos.lata wrote:

I try to always record in 1280 x 720 at 29 frames/second. Sometimes in a lower res.
Ken berry replied that he uses: Create Video File > Same As First Clip - am I wrong by guessing that means to keep everything as the original MP4 file and not change anything?
I of course down the road want to really get into recording some great videos with some really good editing but for now it's just trimming the beginning and ending of a video and plicing several seperate videos together to make one longer video while keeping everything the same. later I can get into touching up the audio and color balance and so on.
I placed a couple videos below to demonstrate. Even though they look pretty good, they look far better on my PC before the edit process and uploading to YouTube.
Thank you for your assistance, it's very much appreciated.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X4 - Settings For GoPro?
Hi
Maybe “converting” was the wrong wording, should have said “render”. I was trying to find out if you rendered same as original or similar or maybe downsized by mistake?
So what are the properties of the original and rendered file?
The quality of the video depends on a few factors, not only Frame size and rate (fps) but the Data Rate (Kbps)
The templates for Upload to Web use H.264 Main Profile Video: 5000 Kbps
Yes --- Share Create Video File – Same as First Video Clip should use the original properties of your video file. Not available for all types of video. Do you have this option?
The properties of the render can be seen in the lower panel “properties” prior to pressing Save.
It is always worth a glance here just to make sure the program is actually doing what you want.
And I assume you are viewing YT at 720P quality
