Re: Saving vector image as jpeg
Layers > Merge All . Then Save As jpg.
If you do a Save as you will get a warning message "Because of the limitations of the specified file format (and possibly the save options you've selected) the saved file will be limited to a merged image. Would you like to continue?" Click Yes and it will automatically merge and save the image as a jpg, BUT leave the image as is on the workspace.

I went to Layers-Merge but then merge all (flatten) was greyed out

Please post some images and describe your steps to give us a better idea of what you are doing and trying to do.
Are you applying your text before you try to merge it. If your text entry box is still visible then you have not applied your text or have started another text entry and you cannot do anything else til you have applied you text

Re: Saving vector image as jpeg
Thanks to your reply hartpaul I think I have sussed my problem. Here is my workflow
1 Open image
2 Click text tool
3 Click on image
4 Text box opens
5 Type text in text box
6 Click apply
7 Text Box closes
8 Handles/ nodes show around text
9 Click on image- handles/nodes disappear-text box shows
10 There is no text in the box and the only option is cancel
11 Click cancel and the box closes but the handles/nodes appear around the text
12 Go to Layers-Merge>Merge All (Flatten)
13 Image (jpeg) with text shows ( without handles/nodes)
14 Save as jpeg on hard drive
The above works but is it the "proper" way to get the result ?

Re: Saving vector image as jpeg
Hi Kenneth,
Step 9 appears to be your problem. Are you trying to move the text to a position or rotate it of sheer it.
I only have PSP8 and PSPX2 so there may be a bit of difference.
In step 9 when you take your cursor to an area not in the word ares you will see an A and clicking gives a new text box.
When you move and click inside the boundaries of a letter it will change to a [A]
When you move it over the centre spot it changes to a 4 headed arrow to allow moving the text.
When you move it over the handle to the side of centre it changes to ( ) and you can rotate the text.
When moved over one of the mid handles you get a small rectangle and a two sided arrow you can use to widen the text in the directions shown.
When over the corner handles you get a rectangle and you can then move and change the size in both vertical and horizontal directions.
When over the mid handles and press and hold the Shift key you get a diamond and two directional arrow and can warp the text.
When over the corner handles and press and hold the Control key you get a trapezium and can move warp the text symmetrically.
(You may have to move the cursor slightly while holding down the shift or control key to see the diamond or trapezium).
Experiment with some large letters on a big transparent canvas to see all these effects.

Re: Saving vector image as jpeg
Hi Paul,
Re step 9, I did not intend to do anymore with the text, what I was trying to do was to get rid of the handles because in my ignorance I thought these had to be got out of the image before trying to save it as a jpeg .What I ended up doing when the handles were not there was to do a screen capture-(via print screen),crop that and end up with a new image with text and no handles.
I assume that as the text box was still showing at that point, this was the reason for the greyed out
Merge all.
Out of interest, in version X this is what shows :-
A Click on text tool
B Cursor changes to A with a large black cross + that has a white “shadow”
C Click on image and text box shows
D Type text in box
E It shows on image
F Click Apply
G Handles show
H Moving cursor onto text area makes [ ] show each side of the A
I Centre spot- cursor changes to a 4 headed arrow to allow text movement
J Hovering over rotation handle shows ( with a down arrow and a ) with an upward
pointing arrow
K Mid handles show a small rectangle and a two sided arrow you can use to widen the
text from bottom or top
L A 4 sided arrow and a rectangle shows on corner handles
M Shift and drag on mid handles to lean text to the left or right
O On corner handles with control pressed trapezium shows
P Control dragging top left handle up gives a perspective effect with start of text
biggest
Q Dragging top left handle gives as P but with end of text biggest
R Dragging top corner handles towards the middle and up gives a “Star Wars”
perspective effect
Thank you for all this information, it gives me more effect s to work with in my learning curve............

Good to hear Kenneth. It is a powerful program and there are lots of little goodies and plenty to learn. I am always picking up new hints and tips and learning new ways of doing things.
