I want to make 720p .mp4 file but i can't

Post by ChrisKyle »

I'm using Corel VS x5. I want to make 720p .mp4 videos but I can't. Why would Corel disable User-Defined for .mp4?

Hi Chris

And welcome to the forums

What do you actually mean by 720P

From Share Create Video File -- Custom option choose “Save as Type” Mpeg4

Then choose the Options button
Compression Tab – Video Type to one of the H264 options-Main or High.
General tab will give 1280 x 720 and 1920 x 1080

Also Share Upload to web will provide a 1280 x 720 template.

Yes there is an issue regarding the User Defined frame sizes being unavailable but can be used with some templates.

Quicktime – using Mpeg4 Visual will allow for User Defined.

Are you specifically after video which uses the .mp4 extension, or are you just after mpeg-4 video? If the latter, you can also use Share > Create Video File > AVCHD, which includes 1280 x 720p as one of the preset options. AVCHD is of course mpeg-4 video produced using the H.264 codec. However, it uses the .m2t extension.

(In looking into the above, I also found to my surprise that the HDV presets also include a 720p option which I tested and found it produced good quality video. However, that of course is HD mpeg-2 and uses the .mpg extension.)
