Since moving to Windows 8 I am having the following problems with Keyword:
1. When I add a Keyword to a Cataloged item, the Keyword is evidently kept in the Catalog but not written to the .XMP file even though the option to do so is set.
2. Forcing the .XMP write does not work either. At the bottom left of the screen it appears to be working but when complete the .XMP's are not updated.
3. Deleting Keywords as indicated in the software only works for those stored in the catalog. When I delete a Keyword stored on the .XMP file, it goes away momentarily and then returns as soon as I either hit Enter or leave the screen and return.
4. It appears to me that this compromises the software's ability to rebuild a catalog from the images and accompanying .XMP files.

Re: Keyword Processing Errors
I think I did. The logs indicted numerous of the following messages with different file names: Unable to write XMP IMG-SX40b-0444(Onl).JPG.xmp: Access is denied.
The library I am using is an external USB drive previously built on my prior computer. If I add new files to that drive, Keywords work as expected. The problem seems to be restricted to those files moved to that external drive from the previous computer. Also, if I delete some of the original files from the catalog and then copy the files to a different hard drive, I can add new Keywords and then I can delete those Keywords that were just added but I can not delete the original Keywords. Along with not writing XMP files the delete function does not work when you select the option to move the files to the recycle bin.
I now have a much better understanding of the scope of the problem but I have no idea how to fix it.
An additional thought. Just for grins I went out and changed the permissions on the external drive so I have Full Control. No change.

Re: Keyword Processing Errors
You need to take ownership of the files.
The windows access control system is a bit of a PITA ;-(
Been there myself with moved drives.
