I have just purchased and installed VSP X6 Ultimate.
I was checking on items on the interface when a popup appeared asking if I want to import all custom Instant Projects in VideoStudio X4 automatically. This has kinda thrown me ....X4? Is this a typo?

Re: VSP X6 - ??
Unfortunately not a typo Maureen but a fault somewhere in the programme - several users including Trevor (lata) have had quite bad problems when X6 installs it's content into X4 libraries - or even throws up an error if the user has never had X4. It does not seem to apply to all users though only a select few.
I think Trevor has solved the problem and I'm sure he will explain when he comes online later in the day (UK time).

Hi Maureen/Brian
No not a typo and not a fault----- although you may not have X4 installed I think Corel are just covering all options in giving the choice to everyone to import X4 Instant Templates, otherwise they would have to scan the pc to check for the installation of X4 before giving the option, and yes a little confusing.
X5 and X6 have a slightly different filing structure to X4, using a common folder for both programs (VSPTemplate) all downloads are installed to this folder, but not for X4
X4 saves the templates folders to:-
C:\Users\Trevor\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro
X5 and X6 use a VSPTemplates folder to store the templates.
C:\Users\Trevor\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate
The option to Import all custom Instant templates X4 would copy the X4 folders to the VSPTemplates folder, that’s if they exist.
Any Instant Template saved in VSPTemplates folder will populate the library of X5 and X6
Clear as mud
By the way the VSPTemplate folder is created when installing the first Instant Project files. So if you have not downloaded and installed then it will not exist.

Re: VSP X6 - ??
Thank you Brian and Trevor
I understood what you have said.
I don't have X4 installed any longer but do X5 and now X6. There is the usual VideoStudio folder in My Documents which houses 15 and a folder 16, but there's nothing in it. The files I installed are outside of X6 and as you said in a VST folder......every single one of them. It makes it a bit confusing as all X6 files should have downloaded to 16.0 folder.
Alll other files are located, as you said Trevor in Users/Public....which is rediculous.
Is it okay if I just move these files to the My Documents folder in 16.0? I really dislike have folders and files for one programme all over the place.

Re: VSP X6 - ??
Hi Maureen
Video Studio X4 had a different format when using Instant Projects, the templates were accessed via a popup window floating over the main workstation.
VS X5/ X6 combined this templates panel to the libraries.
A little more info regarding Corel Guide-Do More downloads.
The downloaded files are saved to folders here:-
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads
They are named using a format similar to 540233871_317005 which makes it a little difficult to identify.
By the way all Corel program downloads would be saved here including Service Packs.
Video Studio X5 X6
Instant Project templates are installed to the VSPTemplates folder, this is a common folder used for X5 and X6. any template folders added here automatically populate the libraries.
For X4 they are installed in the Corel VideoStudio Pro folder, not the VSPTemplates, they are manually imported to X4 Instant projects panel, no auto insert.
If you have installed X4 templates you can move them to the VSPTemplates Folder where they should auto populate the X5 and X6 libraries.
To tidy my X4 list I created a new folder called My Templates to hold all Templates. Now I can open the VSP associated with a template to view the effect and how it works, happy that I would use that particular template I copy the folder to VSPTemplate to populate the library.
The problem with the downloads is that you cannot view the template till you have installed, and that populates the libraries with junk, for want of a better description.
I download a template, install.
The libraries are only populated after re-starting the program that gives me the opportunity to move the templates from VSPTemplates folder to My Templates folder allowing me to test.
Corel did have some issues after X6 release with downloading and installing the Do-More items. As far as I know these issues have been fixed for all downloads.
(except the 4 in 1 fade, one of my efforts --- the files being a little mixed up.)

Re: VSP X6 - ??
Thank you once again Trevor for the informative information.
I checked in Programme Data/Corel, VSPro there are two folders 15 and 16 but each only contain one file which is VS16.dta and is only 1kb.
Everything I downloaded went into My Documents\VideoStudio Pro, VSPTemplate folder......I just placed everything into the 16 folder otherwise I'll be in a bit of a muddle. Actually, most of what I downloaded in 16 I already have in 15.
I am noticing too that when I close VSP16 a pop up appears prompting me to install. Now I'm not sure what to do about that except uninstall the software and reinstall, what do you think?

Re: VSP X6 - ??
Hi Maureen
You seem to be missing something here???????
I am using Windows7 not W8 so the folder locations may have changed a little???
Did you locate this folder C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads
If not then it may be hidden by windows explorer.
Open any folder and select
Organise--Layout – Menu Bar
Then
Tools – Folder Options --View.
Show Hidden files and folders………
OK
The prompt to install indicates that you have downloaded a file and not installed it.
Unfortunately I do not think it shows what file that is until you start the installation. You may be best to simply install the file. I think Corel should give us the option Not to Install, but no the message will continue to show till installed.
You could try deleting the downloaded files, but which one?
Working Folders
Video Studio uses two working folders, one is used for the main editing process and can be changed via F6 Preferences (or the Capture tab)
The second is a Corel secret in that not many know it exists, it is dedicated to the Create Disc section, this working folder is in fact the 16.0, Not much there at the moment but will be used for temporary files used to create/burn a dvd.
The VSPTemplates folder has to remain in its installed location, moving that and the Instant Projects Custom library will lose the links to the templates. Besides another will be automatically created.
You seem to think the files are spread about the pc, but all we have mentioned reside in the Corel VideoStudio Pro folder
(Start-Documents-Corel Video Studio)

Re: VSP X6 - ??
Thank you once again Trevor.
Okay, I found the folders you were referring to, I was looking in the wrong place! All the folders and files are just numbers so I waded through them and found VSP16.
I have moved the two folders back outside of 16 to where they were initially installed. Seems a bit odd to me as all folders and files installed for X5 are within 15 folder. Seems I'm on the right track now and it's time to give the software a try. I have a lot to learn!
Thanks.
