I have been using VS for quite some time, along with my Panasonic GS500. When capturing my video, VS would create a file for every start /stop of the video. I shoot high school football. This is extremely convenient for cataloging plays, because each play is its own file. I know that "Split by Scene" is available, but it does not create a file for each play.
I recently purchased a Canon XH-A1s and wanted to move to HD. The question I have is.....will the new Canon camera and VS Pro X4 provide for the same type of capture, when optioned for HD. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Re: Split by Scene
Since the Canon also uses miniDV for recording then I would think capturing should work the same way as with the Panasonic assuming VS X4 can capture in HD. I do not have X4 so cannot confirm that but I am sure someone else can. You can of course also use the software that came with the camera for capturing.

Re: Split by Scene
FWIW, I have a HDV Canon HV20. I don't tend to use VS to capture, not that it doesn't work. I prefer a little freeware program called HDVSplit, which as its name implies, splits by scene very nicely indeed. I use this mainly because I can assign my own names to the captured files. I don't have a URL for it, but a simple Google search should find it.

Ken:
Thanks for your response. I was able to get HDVSplit to work with the tweeking. I was having trouble with the split scene but found out that you have to advance the tape slightly to get a valid timecode. The interesting thing here is that HDVSplit creates a file type that window XP identifies has "MPEG-TS Video" and VS Pro X4 catpures it as .mpg and obviously not split the scenes into individual files. The questions is....do the later releases of the VS Pro have this HD split by scene capability, which creates individual files? If not, is it planned for future releases?
Thanks for your help

Re: Split by Scene
No the current version still doesn't have that capability (splitting as part of the capture process); nor do we have any idea what might be planned for future versions since none of us here work for Corel.
Incidentally, HDV video is indeed mpeg transport stream (TS). In a sense it is irrelevant what the extension is -- .m2t or .mpg. What is important is its properties.
