Unreadable or Unlinked ??

Post by BrianCee »

Now using VS X6

It has always been my custom when capturing files that on completion of capture I immediately change the name of the captured file to something sensible, then go back into VideoStudio and simply use the 'Relink' option to connect the thumbnail back to the actual file and then rename the thumbnail.

However - I am now finding more and more that after changing the file name and then clicking on the thumbnail in VideoStudio nothing happens I do NOT get the option to re-link - If I then try to drag the file down into the timeline I get a message which says "The content of these files is unreadable" followed by the path to the file displaying it's original name.

No matter what I try I cannot re-link the thumbnail to the file, my only option is to delete the thumbnail and import the file to the library again - after which every thing works normally.

All files are on the main hard drive

This is happening on both Desktop and Laptop - Is anybody else seeing this change of behaviour - or is it just me.

Hi Brian

Have just tried with a couple of files with no problems.
The re-linking working as expected.

If you re-name after importing to the library
The library thumbnail name would be the same as original, even after re-linking?

I just renamed one of the sample videos and tried to select it and get this :--
X6 unreadable files.PNG
X6 unreadable files.PNG (35.74 KiB) Viewed 5491 times

it will not re-link to the re-named file - other than deleting the thumbnail and importing the file again.

FWIW, I just changed the name of that same sample file. I had first made a copy of it in case something went wrong. I also first closed VS. On re-opening, the file showed a broken link icon and I got the message that it needed re-linking. I navigated to the Samples/Video folder and pointed to the new name. The relinking completed successfully. So I too am not able to replicate your problem.

Brian, did you check preferences to see if the Relink Checking option is turned on? It's found on the General tab very near the top.

Yes it is checked thank you - the strange thing - to me anyrate - is that it is happening on both my desktop and my laptop (both W7) - but also it is not consistent - it does not happen every single time but around half of the times I try it.

Hi Brian

Just tried again with V01, the relink works ok but I get an error message “Some clips have not been relinked successfully”
Don’t understand that as all clips seem ok.
Also the small icon top left of the thumbnail is different, original looks like a frame whilst the re-named is a curved line?

The only way to replace this is to restore the libraries, or delete and import the original

Very odd that it is happening to both your PC’s yet nobody else can replicate it, otherwise we could think it’s a program issue.
Still could be so whats the difference in our setup to yours?
