Hello,
I am using VSX5 Ultimate. I installed a program called drop box and another called Helium. After installing these programs, VSX5 will no longer load. The intro screen does not even come up. I click on my short cut and my mouse pointer spins for a few seconds, then nothing. I have checked my programs and I do not have browser protect, browser manager or babylon. I uninstalled the two programs I mentioned above and restarted my computer but nothing happens still. Should I try uninstalling VSX5 and reinstalling?
Thank you for your help.
Sheila

Re: VSX5 Will No Longer Load
Hi Sheila
Video life is not treating you well!
Corel have a set of instructions to clear the registery when you uninstall and there is a bit of software available as well. (can't remember what it's called) Do you need the two recently installed programs?
Why not upgrade to X6? It seems quite stable up to now. I have completed one DVD and am in the middle of another. I don't try any of the clever tricks that VS X6 has but the basic editing seems to be reliable.
When I have had to reinstall X5 (twice in its lifetime) I have always taken my PC to my distributor to clear out the old and replace with the new. The reason? He has warned me off messing with the registry.
So I let him mess with the registry!!

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi Sheila
You do seem to be having your fair share of problems.
First right click the VS X5 icon and try Run as Administrator
If it is a problem with loading the library you could try
Resetting VideoStudio Pro X5 to its Factory Default Setting
This will cause the library to lose all its content and revert to its first installed state.
And if that does not work try re-installing the program, Uninstall using the standard windows options.
Otherwise try….
Manually Removing Corel VideoStudio Pro X5
Finally you could try a Windows System Restore to the point where the program worked.

Re: VSX5 Will No Longer Load
Hey guys,
I initially tried a system restore, but the crazy other program I installed created so many restore points that I couldn't go back far enough to were the program was working.
I did right click on the VS icon and clicked run as administrator. It opened up fine and my video clips are there. Is this the way I have to open it from now on?
Thanks
Sheila

Re: VSX5 Will No Longer Load
One of the messages I kept getting prior to this happening was related to Java. Noting that it needed to be updated. Of course, I kept putting this off. One of the last programs I updated - Freemake - caused me an issue with VSX5 by installing the browser protect file. Does VSX5 use Java? I'm not technically savvy when it comes to what programs use what other functions to run properly. (Could explain why I'm having so many issues!!!
)
thanks,
Sheila

Re: VSX5 Will No Longer Load
Hi Sheila
Corel always recommend installing and running the program with administrator rights, This is usually done automatically as your PC user account should have been set up with Admin rights.
So something upset the system??
Simply double clicking the icon should now work for you.
Many of the free downloads do try installing Toolbars or plugins.
Some of course will be ok, take care when downloading free stuff.
As far as I know Java is used by the internet, I don’t think it is associated with Video Studio.
The Browser Manager problem is again an internet issue, so why it affects Video Studio is a little strange, other than VS must access the internet on start, maybe checking for updates.
anyhow you seem to be up and running ok

Re: VSX5 Will No Longer Load
Thanks again for your help. I was able to complete my project.
I closed the program when was finished and tried to open. VSX5 still won't open when I double click on the icon. I still have to right click and sign on as administrator. I hope this continues to work because I dread uninstalling and reinstalling.
