Quick question to those in the know.
Using VS X5 - Just making up a menu for my dvd im burning. Haven made a menu since using ..VS11+ I think it was.
All seems very very familar...similar etc and not asking it to do anything out of the ordinary which 11+ couldnt cope with ( just nowadays using all this AVCHD malaky etc )
Question -Main menu of my dvd - Why am I getting on my main menu page the begininings of my movie!!! I have my main menu setup ( bringing in a pre-made 30second clip on which I will put 'Press Play to watch movie' and/or 'chapter select'. ) When i preview my main menu page...I see the 30second clip i wanted but as it runs so too does my actual movie - at the same time.
I cant seem to find a button to ..basically..tell it not to play the movie as soon as you load the dvd but instead to wait until the 30 second main menu runs and automatically reruns etc until YOU decide to press the 'Play movie' button.
Never had this problem using 11+.......Thoughts and ideally a solution more than welcome.
THANKS
Main menu plays movie as well as menu clip...

Re: Main menu plays movie as well as menu clip...
Can we assume you are seeing the movie in a separate little preview window to the main one in which the inserted 30 sec clip plays?
If so, which type of menu are you using: the SmartScene ones or Thumbnail ones? The latter will of course normally have several preview windows, though SmartScene normally only has one.

Re: Main menu plays movie as well as menu clip...
Hi Ken,
No this is not happening. I have completed my project, saved etc, I went into 'Share - Create Disc' ( realise other options but im most comfortable with this one for now ).
I either create chapter points or I don't. I then bring in a pre-made 30second title screen shot and music.
I then press the preview button just before I plan to burn it.
On watching the preview..the dvd begins bascially showing BOTH my pre-made title screen AND the actual start of my movie. Only for 30seconds of course..but it ruins my title screen obviously.
At this stage I can obviously click on the button 'play movie' and my movie will play. So the menu etc all works fine...it's just the actual movie is running over the top of my menu screen for the 30sec duration.
the past never had this problem. I dont understand why it's happening. I have tried about 5 attempts ...changing different options/not creating my chapter/scene selections...all irrelevant as no joy. Naturally its..very fustrating. Getting so close etc..
So - basically - in the title screen/main menu my movie starts playing ( automatically as soon as you were to put in the dvd so to speak ). How do turn this off?
thanks for your previous reply and hopefully a shout out to anyone else who may know. A simple problem...not a bug in the system surely!

...up pops title screen ok..but + movie starts at the same time as title screen is running for 30sec!!!

Re: Main menu plays movie as well as menu clip...
Unfortunately you did not answer Kens question about which menu template you are using - I am assuming you are NOT creating an AVCHD disc but a standard DVD in which case you are using either a "Smartscene" (one biggish thumbnail) or a "Thumbnail" menu (multiple thumbnails.)
When you say "as soon as I put the DVD in my video starts playing - do you mean just in the thumbnail - that is what it's supposed to do - it will only play the first 30 seconds (or as you set) over and over again until it is selected - it will not play the whole video until you click on it - if you just want a still picture in the thumbnail un-check "Motion Menu" in the screen where you insert your video background..
Are you inserting your 30 second video as the background to the menu - if yes that's OK - but your problem is that you now have your video playing in a thumbnail as well - is that what you do NOT want ?.
So - have you tried - when you get to the second screen in the Create Disc Module - where you choose your template from the "Gallery" look to the top of the gallery of images and you will see another tab marked "Edit" - click on it to change to menu edit mode.
About 2/3 rds down the left side is an icon labelled "Customise" - click on it - a new screen will open.
In the preview window there click on the thumbnail you do not want - then RIGHT click - and depending on which menu you are using you will have one of two options - one is "Hide Object" - hopefully self explanatory - the other option could be "Set Object Transparency" - click on that and use the controls which appear to set transparency to 99 (no 100)
Whichever option you have and use will make it vanish - do the same with any other objects in the template you do not need.
When you start to make change an icon under the preview screen labelled "Add to menu template" will light up and become available to you - clicking on that will add the modified template to your "Favorites" tab in the gallery so that it is available for you to use again
Clicking OK should take you back to the "Create disc" module with only you background video showing.

Re: Main menu plays movie as well as menu clip...
Hi garjobo
I think you are using Smart Scenes menu, that will play the video on the screen.
Go to the gallery tab and select Thumbnail menus, or maybe a Text menu may be best given that you seem to be adding a video as a background.
I am unsure if VS11 used Smart Scenes???

Re: Main menu plays movie as well as menu clip...
thank you Lata - that appears to be the problem solved...kindof. On the right track for sure. However now I have the background - faint - but still the background whether i use Text or whatever kind from the dropdown menu. Is there not a blank one?? Does work in the sense that I no longer get the film playing though.

Re: Main menu plays movie as well as menu clip...
I begin to see the light... I think!
When you go into the Edit tab as described by Brian, up in the top left corner you have Background Music, and under it Motion Menu, and under that Background Image/Video. What is in that little window under it? If there is a path to your video, then left click the icon beside it and use Reset which should then give you an entry which says 'No Background Selected'.
