Help with SmartSound albums...

Post by harryball »

First, I'm very foggy on how the SmartSound stuff works so maybe I'm missing something. I've been using it since X4, now I'm running X6Ultimate. Both X4 and X5 have been uninstalled. I am running QuickTracks 5.1.8. I purchased the downloaded versions of VS.

Now, in X6, when using AutoMusic I have the Scope set to Owned titles. It shows I have 11 albums available to use.
Of those, the Add to Timeline is always greyed out when these albums are selected.
Family, Good Times, Positive Outlook, Scoring Essentials

Why can't I access those albums?

If I click on SmartSound Quicktracks I can rebuild the smartsound database, no effect.

On the Albums tab Only the following Albums are listed, Core Foundations, Family, New Standard and Online Purchases. All but Family show Available = Yes. Family shows No.

If I select Family and click on Properties there are 10 selections with 0 copied to the drive. If I try to copy any of them to the drive it want's me to insert the "Family" disc into the drive. I don't have a disc, never have.

How do I get these albums working again?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
/RB

Have you ever owned any SmartSound albums, apart from anything that was installed when you installed VS? If not, then that is the problem, since as far as I am aware, you only get Core Foundations with X6, though there may have been one other (Core Evolution or New Standard?); or else the others are leftovers from the earlier versions of VS you have now removed. I understand that uninstalling VS does not necessarily uninstall SmartSound tracks.

I can't really say any more since my SmartSound library has lots of entries as in fact I do own quite a few albums which I regularly use. I also have the Sonicfire Pro 5.8 program which is the 'professional' big brother program to SmartTracks... It's a very useful program if you do a lot of video editing with music (and have a lot of the albums).

Hi
well I only have one extra pack to my smart sound, this is what I see.

When I view the Auto Music tab I set scope as Owned Titles.
The filter to Albums
The Subfolder shows 8 albums.
One of which I purchased called Ethereal Dreams, so 7 are automatically installed with Video Studio either X6 or earlier versions. Or indeed other programs.
The two main ones being Core Foundations and Full Spectrum.
Select any option then view the available tracks via Music

I do not see any reference to “Family, Good Times, Positive Outlook, Scoring Essentials”
I can only assume these have been installed on your system by you or another program using Smart Sound.

Selecting the Smart Sound Quicktracks words opens the SmartSounds Quicktracks 5 window.
The Albums tab show 4 items,
Core foundations
Ethereal Dreams (I purchased that)
New Standards
Online Purchases

Double click each to view the actual clips.

The Folder tab shows where on the hard drive. I see
C:\ProgramData\SmartSound Software Inc\Sound Files

Family, Good Times, Positive Outlook, Scoring Essentials may be on the hard drive but in a different location, search the pc for these files? May use the extension SDS
If you find them, Add the Folder to the list.

Finally on the Internet tab, Check for updates.

Interestingly enough, while I have a large number of album names -- from the ones I have used in prior projects -- the only ones actually loaded on my computer are Core Foundations, Core Evolution, New Standard and, theoretically, Online Purchases -- at least those are the ones showing as YES under Album Name -- Available. (I have never actually bought any on-line discs via SmartTracks -- only directly via SmartSounds website...)

The only other version of VS I have on this computer is X5 Ultimate -- never had any version prior to that on this machine. I never load any of my albums onto the hard disc. I just import directly from disc in the disc drive, though of course the name of the disc is registered (and for the older albums, the serial code entered).

Thanks, this was helpful. I don't know where the other albums came from but I was able to remove the extras based on comments about what should be there and at least clean up so all the music can be added to a timeline.

Thanks,
