Can't use ColorFast on overlay track?

Post by Brucewh »

Okay, maybe I'm missing something obvious here. I've installed NewBlue ColorFast, and it shows up in VS X6 as expected. If I drag and drop it onto the video track, the changes I make apply, no problem. But if I drag and drop it onto the overlay track, then make the changes I need, they don't stick … they go away when the dialogue is closed. Is this filter limited to the video track only? Or do I have a problem here?

I don't have any problems here with the overlay track and Colorfast. Did you have keyframes turned on after you opened Colorfast? That's one of it's options. If you leave it turned on, and don't keyframe anything else, then the effect fades in until the middle of the clip and then fades out to the end of the clip. So if the timeline cursor is at the beginning of the clip, you won't see any effect. The effect will be full on at the middle of the clip, and then full off at then end of the clip.

I make a habit of turning off keyframes the first thing when I open the Colorfast dialog. That's how it is with most of the NewBlue effects.

Well, I tried it on the overlay track with keyframes at the beginning and end of the clip, and without using keyframes. The preview in the ColorFast dialogue displays my changes accurately. However, the only way to close the dialog after the settings are complete is to click the red X in the top right-hand corner. There is nothing along the lines of an "Apply" or "Okay" button in the dialogue, so there's no other way out. Nevertheless, when I use it on the main video track, my settings are saved. When I try it on the overlay track, clicking the red X seems to cancel everything I've done.

Incidentally, this seems to be the only NewBlue effect filter that gives me this problem. Sigh.

Hi Bruce

The ColorFast panel is quite large.
I see two buttons lower left, OK and Cancel scroll down using the windows slider far right.

I guess Corel are trying to make the panel as large as possible

As Trevor said, the OK and Cancel buttons are hidden at the bottom. You have to use the scroll bar to get to them.

Of course when you click the red X, you are cancelling what you set up. That applies throughout Microsoft Windows.

I looked at that dialogue box a dozen times and didn't spot that slider. Feel like such a dolt. In my (weak) defense, it is a skinny slider that blends in with the dialogue box frame. And it blends in with the more visible slider for the presets panel at the bottom. Also confusing is that the vertical sliders are distinctly different, visibly, from the horizontal slider for the timeline. Anyway, thank you for the clue … I am somewhat less clueless than I was before. I appreciate it.

Bruce, don't feel like a dolt. Corel VS must have one of the worst interface designs when it comes to color.
