Thanks Rick! I always believed in ASP. None other alternative can give me such flexibility while working on hundres of images very productively & fast!
Rick - can I clarify this statement? I assume you mean that existing users can continue to use the last version that contained NN. But I also assume that as soon as we install a version of ASP without NN then we'll have no access to it. So if we re-edit images previously edited in ASP with NN then these NN settings will be ignored and removed. Is this correct? I can see no other way that this would work.Rick Champagne wrote:Next up, noise removal. As you know, we had to remove Noise Ninja from AfterShot Pro and it is no longer a part of the application when someone buys a new version of AfterShot Pro. This does not affect existing users -- you may continue using Noise Ninja as you always have.
RickRick Champagne wrote: What I meant about Noise Ninja was that when we patch or provide an update for AfterShot Pro 1.1.x.x, we will not remove NN from users who already had it with their original purchase. There was some concern in another thread that the update would remove it, but that is not the case. If you install an update, NN will not go away. If you purchase a new version AfterShot Pro today, NN will not even be present.
When we release a new paid upgrade version, we will be obligated to remove NN entirely. At that time however, we should have the new noise removal technology in place. It's a bit premature to talk about at this stage, but we would hope to have as close a match as possible for existing images. That's the general direction and we'll have more insights as we get deeper into it. In any case, a lot to look forward to!
Good for you, having invested time and energy elsewhere. But Darktable UI is still a mess in so many ways and will most likely remain so.algreen345 wrote:Good that Corel is communicating. But what I read here is that there are now two developers working on updates, and most updates are aimed at avoiding obsolecense. However, the competition isn't waiting for Corel to catch up. LR is adding layers, Darktable is adding masks, and every other vendor has more than two developers working on their product.
Camera upgrades. New Noise engines. Communication from Corel on this forum.
Sorry. Too little and too late. I've already invested time and energy learning to use Darktable. They have a small army of developers who communicate with users every day.
Yup, my same words! At one point I considered going back to Windows, and using LR. Had also a look on different Linux converters. But: ASP is pretty good and I can get things done with it easily. Bottom line: ASP is for me the best alternative on every OSlundbech wrote: But Darktable UI is still a mess in so many ways and will most likely remain so.
Some of us, having tested extensively all Linux alternatives, not neccesarily wanting to switch to something else, but as a matter of interest. RawTherapee, Darktable, Photivo, LightZone, RawStudio all fall short in many ways.
So we are looking forward to seeing what Corel will do. ASP is pretty complete product in many ways, even though there are things that need to be taken care of (we all know what they are).

that is very true. but you always have to reach the first Soon™ before you can progress to the next one.albernier wrote:OK, but as you know, in that theory, one Soon™ is equal as two or more Soons™.....
