Thanks Rick! I always believed in ASP. None other alternative can give me such flexibility while working on hundres of images very productively & fast!

Re: AfterShot Pro Update
Rick - can I clarify this statement? I assume you mean that existing users can continue to use the last version that contained NN. But I also assume that as soon as we install a version of ASP without NN then we'll have no access to it. So if we re-edit images previously edited in ASP with NN then these NN settings will be ignored and removed. Is this correct? I can see no other way that this would work.Rick Champagne wrote:Next up, noise removal. As you know, we had to remove Noise Ninja from AfterShot Pro and it is no longer a part of the application when someone buys a new version of AfterShot Pro. This does not affect existing users -- you may continue using Noise Ninja as you always have.

Re: AfterShot Pro Update
Hi F_P,
What I meant about Noise Ninja was that when we patch or provide an update for AfterShot Pro 1.1.x.x, we will not remove NN from users who already had it with their original purchase. There was some concern in another thread that the update would remove it, but that is not the case. If you install an update, NN will not go away. If you purchase a new version AfterShot Pro today, NN will not even be present.
When we release a new paid upgrade version, we will be obligated to remove NN entirely. At that time however, we should have the new noise removal technology in place. It's a bit premature to talk about at this stage, but we would hope to have as close a match as possible for existing images. That's the general direction and we'll have more insights as we get deeper into it. In any case, a lot to look forward to!
Best Regards,
Rick

Re: AfterShot Pro Update
Great news, Rick, keep it coming!
I agree with the other opinions here about priorities. ASP is IMO already pretty feature complete.
1. support of new camera models. ASP was faster to support the Olympus OMD-M5 than Lightroom - keep it that way!
2. Bug fixes
3. Image quality tweaks - ask users for examples where the competition provides better results
ASP main strengths are multi platform support, speed, low footprint, layers, and the ability to work without catalogs. Make sure that these strengths stay as they are, otherwise you will have a "Me too" product and loose.

It was my understanding that people who have bought ASP since the NN contract expired did not get NN included. So what you are saying is that the next non-paid upgrade will be different, or will behave differently, for those who bought ASP with NN compared to those who bought it without. If this correct?
More generally, if you read these forums I have been one of those who was rather pessimistic about the future of ASP. It was hard not to be. Many of the changes that Corel made to create ASP were of dubious value. The sudden departure of the former Bibble staff did not inspire confidence. There hasn't been any sign of real progress since they left (as I understand that the most recent release was mostly final before they left). ASP lags badly in support for new cameras. There has been almost no communication for a long time, until your arrival. Now your first post in this thread in encouraging. But you will understand that in order for us to switch from pessimism to cautious optimism, we will need to see an actual release.
Thank you for communicating with us.

Re: AfterShot Pro Update
I think it may be good for us to list what new cameras we want RAW support for.
For me it would be:
Fuji Xpro1, XE1,
Nikon D600, D7100

Still learning after all these years!

Good that Corel is communicating. But what I read here is that there are now two developers working on updates, and most updates are aimed at avoiding obsolecense. However, the competition isn't waiting for Corel to catch up. LR is adding layers, Darktable is adding masks, and every other vendor has more than two developers working on their product.
Camera upgrades. New Noise engines. Communication from Corel on this forum.
Sorry. Too little and too late. I've already invested time and energy learning to use Darktable. They have a small army of developers who communicate with users every day.

Good for you, having invested time and energy elsewhere. But Darktable UI is still a mess in so many ways and will most likely remain so.algreen345 wrote:Good that Corel is communicating. Some of us, having tested extensively all Linux alternatives, not neccesarily wanting to switch to something else, but as a matter of interest. RawTherapee, Darktable, Photivo, LightZone, RawStudio all fall short in many ways.
So we are looking forward to seeing what Corel will do. ASP is pretty complete product in many ways, even though there are things that need to be taken care of (we all know what they are).
Thanks to Rick for the info! It's appreciated!

Yup, my same words! At one point I considered going back to Windows, and using LR. Had also a look on different Linux converters. But: ASP is pretty good and I can get things done with it easily. Bottom line: ASP is for me the best alternative on every OSlundbech wrote: But Darktable UI is still a mess in so many ways and will most likely remain so.

Re: AfterShot Pro Update
Thanks for the update!
I just switched from Pentax K-7 to K-5 II and found that the new PEF and DNG files are not yet supported in the current version of Aftershot Pro.
I hope K-5 II support will be added also otherwise I will have to find another software.
Best Regards,
Gabor

Re: AfterShot Pro Update
Is there a rough timeline on the next release?
Re: AfterShot Pro Update
BibbleLabs traditionally had a release date of
Soon™
and yes, Soon™ is the core unit of the Theory of Relativity. things appear to be moving at a different speed depending on who you are. although, i think Einstein never officially used the unit himself.

Bibble since 2004. Aftershot until 2020. From then on darktable.

OK, but as you know, in that theory, one Soon™ is equal as two or more Soons™

that is very true. but you always have to reach the first Soon™ before you can progress to the next one.albernier wrote:OK, but as you know, in that theory, one Soon™ is equal as two or more Soons™.....
