When I am done working on a project for the day if I save it (save or save as) the next time I open the Vsp file, it is all in the main timeline.
Can't edit titles, transitions or anything. Basically, it is like flattening an image. What is the problem? Thanks
Using VS Pro 5 Ultimate.

Re: Can not save work in progress in VS5
Hi and welcome,
how are you opening your project - your description sounds as if you are using "insert video" and adding your .vsp to the timeline.
Can you confirm that you are in fact using "File >> open project" and browsing to your .vsp and clicking 'open' OR clicking on "File" and choosing your project name from the 'recent' list at the bottom of the drop down.

Hi Steve
And welcome to the forums
Not sure I really understand what you are saying, but are you viewing the timelines in Storyboard View.
That will display the top track only as individual thumbnails.
Float the mouse to the far left adjacent to the Undo arrows there are two icons, Storyboard and Timeline views, click for Timeline view.
Does that help
Brian...Just read your reply ... Good point ............

Re: Can not save work in progress in VS5
Hi and thanks for the help.
I use the folder icon above the library, next to the video, photo and sound buttons to access the saved video files. When saving my work
it is saved as a vsp. file by default, correct? When I retrieve the file the same way as above to the timeline it is all on one track. I am
expecting it to look the same as when I saved it, with title track, sound track etc.

Re: Can not save work in progress in VS5
Yes that is what you are doing wrong - as you say when you go "Save" or "Save as" a .vsp file is created - that is a Video Studio Project file - it is NOT a video file and cannot be treated as such. It is actually a text file containing all the information abut the editing you have done in your project.
When you want to continue editing a project you have saved you MUST go to "File >> open project file" then browse to the .vsp file click on it and select OK then it will re-open as you left it in the timeline.
as an alternative when you click on "file" and the drop down opens the recent vsp files will be listed at the bottom as in most Windows applications - you can select it there.
There are instances where you do use a .vsp somewhat like a video - but normal straightforward editing is not one of them.

Re: Can not save work in progress in VS5
I only use the timeline view. I have had this problem since I got VS 5 about 5 months ago. But since that is also when I first started video editing I thought I would figure it out by now as I have so many other things that I didn't bother you with.
Now I have a golf tournament video I took and am working on lots of clips and over 100 Boris titles
so I need to save in progress, desperately.
Thanks again, Steve

Yes it worked, I saved and reopened my golf project. Getting help so fast was unexpected
and greatly appreciated. I may not have figured this out for a long time so I'm happy to be
part of the Forum. Thanks Brian and lata for your help and service.

Re: Can not save work in progress in VS5
Hi Steve
Just to add a little more info.
Opening a project file.
If you choose File—at the bottom of the list (above Exit) should be the 4 latest projects used, the top one being the latest, this I suppose is a quick launch option.
Nesting
Hoping this does not confuse…….
One word of warning, as you are now aware you can view the VSP as a single thumbnail.
It can be inserted to the library and timeline as a single clip, this is known as “nesting”. Some use the method as part of the editing process.
Doing so can cause problems so I do not recommend using nesting.
The advice is to take care not to add a VSP to the timeline
You open a VSP not add or insert it.
