Videostudio x5 does not play MPG formats.

Post by adheynes »

This is my first attempt at asking for assistance in this forum.

I have found that the program Videostudio x5 does not play MPG formats.

When using SHARE-Custom-MPG the program renders the video, then displays a general error message and closes the program.

It seems to play AVI, MOV, MP4, WMV, Webm, UIS formats.

Other players work - ie. VLC , Media Player Classic and DIV-X.
A black screen is shown in WIN DVD silver.

I have loaded H-Lite 9.90 , FFDSHOW and Windows 8 codecs, but this made no difference.

I have downloaded and installed Videostudio X6 as a trial, but this made no difference either

What is missing?

Regards,
Tony

Of course VS X5 (and X6) play mpg files.
Without a lot more information on your project (what are your source files, what are the project and source files properties, etc) it is impossible to even guess where the problem is. That event log you posted does not tell us very much.

There have been previous reports relating to a faulting dll file identified in your event log, i.e. uvHTMPEG2.dll However, the most recent report I can find is from June 2010 and it related to VS X3. See http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... d8#p199986

Have a look at that thread and perhaps something in it might help -- though I can't guarantee it...

FWIW, I have found 5 different versions of that dll on this computer, and each is different in size and date. Each relates to the different Corel video-related programs I have installed (VS X6 and X5, Movie Factory 7 and separately its disc recorder; and Motion Studio 3D). The X5 one is 431 kb in size. Check the size of yours, please -- it could be that under one suggestion made in the above thread, that your version has somehow been corrupted.

Thankyou for your reply.

The uvHTMPEG2 file is the same size as you have said - so it is not corrupted.

I checked the report you suggested, but these do not seem to apply.

I have started with 3 JPG files, and the project options are unchanged

I do not know what to do next - except to use a different program.

The problems began when I upgraded from XP to WIN 8 last week - no problem at all on XP.

Hi

It does appear to be a Windows 8 re-Video Studio problem at least for you. There are many others using VS and W8 without this problem.

Have you tried running the program in Windows 7 or XP compatibility mode, I am unsure what options are available using W8

Otherwise you should contact Corel Support, a little difficult to get free support for X5, not sure if the trial of X6 would attract support???

But first try compatibility mode……..

I paid Corel to get advice. They were suggesting that the drivers were causing the problem - and after submitting the computer setup to them, they insisted that the problem was drivers and that they did not have any documentation to fix this. What a waste of time and money!

However, I have fixed the problem myself.

I re-installed Windows 8 (leaving personal file and programmes alone). The videostudio still did not play MPG files.

So after a few days of hunting, decided to re-install Windows 8 again (this time leaving personal files alone). Then install video studio and it works. Reinstall all my other programmes and it still works. Load in Win DVD 8 player and after installing the K-lite driver pack it plays sound as well.

The only disappoinment was the DVD Workshop 2 does not play sound and does not look as though it could after Win XP.

That is 2 out of 3 and I will need to purchase a new DVD authoring program.

Tony

You just said that VideoStudio now works - VideoStudio includes a full DVD authoring section - why are you saying you need to purchase a new DVD authoring programme.
