Found this fix after much banging head off wall...
Symptoms - Opens with a black box and gets no further
Solution turned out to be a nvidia video card setting.
Changing vertical sync to adaptive
and
Triple buffering to on
fixed it for me (dunno which, I suspect the vertical sync)

Appearently WinDVD Pro 11is compatible with Windows 8?
Where do users who already bought WinDVD Pro 11 get the update or do we have buy it again....becasue I'm not going to.

I reinstalled WinDVD pro 11 and now it magically works on windows 8! I didn't have to tinker with any settings what so ever. I did have to download a Corel Kaypack or something prior to use but it works!!!
If only they updated sooner I would have cared.
