My AVI files will play and allow me to capture a frame but MP4 (my new cam) will not open in X5. I did get a warning that I needed to install Quicktime, which I have done and still won't work....... any suggestions on how I can rectify please.
The MP4 only shows the 1st frame of the video.
I thought maybe PSP doesn't support MP4, but then I read this in help file:
"Corel PaintShop Pro supports the video formats that are supported by your system."
Can someone tell me that it should / shouldn't work. Does it work for you?
Playing MP4 files in PSP X5 work for you ??

Re: Playing MP4 files in PSP X5 work for you ??
I don't use manage mode. For me PSP is an image editing program, not a video player. I did a search as you did on the video formats and although the hepl files suggest that XP5 does support video I tested it out by placing a new folder on the desktop. I added some jpg images, an avi file, flv, and mp4. Only the avi was recognised with a thumbnail and it would not play. This on an XP system where all those files played in various players.
For video work I use an old version of Pinnacle Studio 12 for editing and picture grabs. I also have available the AVS4You Video converters and editors.
For recording screen videos I have the BSR Screen Recorder 5, for making pdfs I have PDF creator, for working with RAW files I have Digital Photo Professional that came with my Canon Camera or Aftershot Pro.
For most video playing I use AVS Media player , for flv I use free flv player which also plays mp4 files. for music mp3 files I use Winamp.
I do not expect PSPX5 or any version to be able to be the be-all and end-all of programs and handle everything. It is good but not that good and they should not try and make it like that. ie. use specialist programs for specialist work.

Re: Playing MP4 files in PSP X5 work for you ??
I use VLC for all of my media playback it does most every format I've ever encountered including flv, certain swfs with flv, mp4, avi, dvd, mp3, etc. But this isn't an advertisement for VLC.
The video playback in PSP lets you watch a video, pause it when it comes to a certain point, then take a snapshot of the current frame and import it into the editor for use. Semi handy, if you're ever in need of it.
Based on my trials I am going to make a major assumption here. I'm going to guess that PSP is using DirectShow to do its video playback. In which case WMV and AVI are the supported file formats.
It can then support any Video format (codec) that DirectShow is able to use. So MP4 or MPEG4 video format is supported, but MP4 file format is not supported.
If you want your MP4 files to be playable from inside PSP they have to be converted to AVI or WMV file format.
