SOLVED - videostudio x5 pro - strange noise clicks

Post by michaelmellner »

Hello there. I’m new here and happy to have found a community that I hope can help me out.

I have video studio x5 pro which was updated automatically today with the service pack 2. I created a project inserting an .mp4 file.

While I was playing it to check it out I heard a noise like a click happening every second or so.
I was afraid it was a bad audio/video recording. So I played it with VLC and the sound was perfect.
The strange thing is that if I play this video in clip mode everything is perfect, if I play it into project mode this click happens as said.

Please help me out here: I’m sort of desperate since I tried everything I could.

FYI I use video studio with a HP Envy 2199 3D laptop and everything was perfect until yesterday.

all the best from Italy

Welcome to the forums!

It's strange, though, since I did not think there was an automatic update with Video Studio... :?:

Nevertheless, can you tell us more about the video you have inserted. Please right click on one of the clips in the Video Studio timeline or library window and copy ALL the Properties here -- either manually or by posting a screen grab of the Properties box. Can you also tell us whether you changed the Project Properties from their default. And have you actually rendered your project to a new video mp4? If so, is the click still there.

One other possibility would be simply to do a System Restore to a point before SP2 was installed. Nonetheless, it is strange since most users here with X5 -- including myself -- have installed SP2 with no problems resulting.

Hi Ken and thanks a 1000 for your quick reply.
I have attached the picture of one of the videos I put in the project. hopefully you will be able to see it.
as for project properties I didn't change anything, at least intentionally. honestly I wouldn't know where to go to change them :?:

to test try the result I rendered the entire clip into an mpg file. the clicks are still there even if a bit lower in volume.

as for system restore, how can I do it? I think you are referring to video studio restore, right?

don't know...............i'm a beginner in video editing, but it looks like an error in importing the video but this is just a guessing since, as mentioned before, the video plays perfectly in clip mode.........

EDIT: the version of my x5 il 15.2.0.10 which should be the latest...........

Where did the video come from? Perhaps from a mobile phone?

As for system restore, no I don't mean restoring Video Studio. I mean the utility in Windows which allows you to restore Windows to a slightly earlier date. Down in the bottom left of the Windows screen type in system restore. A dialogue box appears offering a variety of dates. While it will remove any programs you may have installed since SP2, it will not affect data.

Hi

You mention that the clip plays ok in Clip Playback.
The video properties indicate NTSC using 29.97 fps, you are in Italy and use Pal.
Can you change the Project Properties to use NTSC.

How………

1 Alt+Enter opens the Project properties window
2 / Edit
3 / Compression tab
4 / Media type to Ntsc.
This will set the timeline to use 29.97 fps.

Try playing in Project Playback

Your audio is using Mono, the project properties will be Stereo, maybe this is causing the problem.
I do not think you can choose mono for project properties.
You can however duplicate the Audio Channel from Left To Right or visa versa.

How…….

1 / Open the Sound Mixer (music icon below the preview screen)
2 / Click Attributes tab
3 / Select the clip in the timeline
4 / Tick Duplicate Audio Channel. Choose Left or Right????

Play in project playback.

I am not sure if this will cure the issue, but worth a try,, good luck

SOLVED Re: videostudio x5 pro - strange noise clicks

Post by michaelmellner »

ok. thanks to both of you Ken and Iata for your reply.

@ ken: it was not a mobile phone but a Toshiba Camileo camera.

@ Iata: one question, how did you see the video had a NTSC compression? from the properties pic I couldn't figure it out.

anyways..........that semed to cure the problem because I changed the project properties to NTSC and the clicks were gone.

also thanks for the tip on dividing the audio. indeed yesterday I tried that but nothing changed.

so, thanks again for you precious help that helped me out.

Hi Michael

Pal video uses 25 fps, you are in Italy and would have installed Video Studio to use Pal for its default templates.

Your video uses 29.97 fps as shown on your image, this is the standard rate for NTSC.

You will be rendering the project to a new video file, for the internet then you should use 29.97 to retain the correct number of frames and retain the quality.
You may have to create your own templates using Make Movie Templates Manager, the default templates from Share Create Video File will use 25fps.

ok. I knew about the PAL compression in Italy. thought my camera was recording in PAL. instead it has NTSC. maybe there is a way to set the camera back to PAL...........this is a thing I will remember for future use.

thanks again for this additional info

a number of users - including me - have had problems with Toshiba Camileo cameras in that though you set it to PAL it still makes it's videos with 29.97 fps - one of the more recent topics on that problem is here :- http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50413&
