Does Corel Draw do what PSP does only better?

Post by df »

I've seen this suggested a number of times in the wake of Adobe's Creative Cloud fiasco. Anyone use both?

I've got PSPX5 and the CorelDraw Graphics Suite X5 (CDRGSX5).

CDRGSX5 includes CorelDraw (CDR) and Corel PhotoPaint (CPP). The thing to keep in mind is that CDR is a dedicated vector graphics program and CPP is a dedicated bitmap editing program.

So, the long answer to your question is that CDR offers much more vector graphics capabilities than PSP. CPP is a curious animal: although it offers some more "high end" capabilities than PSP (such as working in various colour spaces), it's features have lagged behind PSP in terms of features like Object Removal, HDR creation, etc.

I've used Corel Graphics Suite for many years. Now I'm only doing images so Photo Paint is the only part I'm using.
PP allows you to work in different color spaces, in my case L.A.B. It also has a better 'Layers' interface, IMHO. Masking is a bit stronger also.
I'm forcing myself to use PSP as my editor because I believe Corel will be developing it more. I've had good luck in the process and will probably
stay with PSP. All this being said....PSP isn't as Powerful as PP.

Well does Draw do things that PSP doesn't but should?
There's no stitching for PSP. Does Draw do that?
There's no focus stacking, does Draw do that?
I should just try Draw out. I never thought to before since I didn't need a vector editor all that often but now it seems there's more to it than just that.

No. PSP's vector capabilities are just fine as is for an image editing application.
df wrote:There's no stitching for PSP. Does Draw do that?
No. "Stitching" is an irrelevant concept for a vector graphics program.

No. Again, that's an irrelevant concept for vector graphics.

It's always best to use a trial version to help make purchasing decisions.
