I am having an issue as follows.
a) I have postscript (.ps) files for my company's logo which are in process color (CMYK).
b) These files open fine in PSP, and the colors are displayed properly. However, I understand that the files were actually converted to sRGB space, that is, I can't actually make changes in CMYK space, only in sRGB.
c) I need to make some changes to the logo, so I figured I would make the changes, then save a TIF file, using the CMYK space. My printer requires a CMYK file only.
d) Therefore, I simply saved the file opened in b) as a TIF file with a CMYK color space.
d) When I do the Save As in PSP, the file looks exactly like it did when first opened in PSP. (Update - if I close the TIF file in PSP, then reopen it, it does look different - greenish tinge, but not as bad as other viewers) But when I look at the file in other programs (IrfanView, MS Publisher, etc) the image is overly green, for example, my olive green logo components are almost bright green, and almost everything else seems to have a slightly greenish tint.
e) By comparison, if I open the postscript file in Irfanview, it renders correctly.
So, I am confused. I thought Irfanview would input CMYK files (and apparently it does for .ps files) but my colors are wrong. What am I looking at? Is this a TIF output issue with PSP? Or do I need to find another viewer to properly see the TIF file.
TIA

Re: Working With CMYK Files
Can I pose this question another way? How come it is that when I open a CMYK .ps file and then save it as a TIF CMYK file, the TIF file colors don't look like the original rendition of the .ps file? Seems to me that PSP converts the CMYK .ps file to sRGB space, then back to CMYK space. Where are the differences occurring?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Working With CMYK Files
Folks, after reading other threads on this forum, I tried the same thing in the old JASC PSP 8, that is, I open the CMYK .ps file then save it as a .tif with CMYK output. It works!
I can only conclude that either I have some settings incorrect or PSP X2 is not properly exporting CMYK .tif files.
Since my files are to large to upload, and the .ps extension is not supported, take a look at http://www.catalystsmesolutions.com/. I've got the images uploaded there. Obviously, CMYK images in a web browser is another issue but the green tilt is still evident.
Cheers.

Re: Working With CMYK Files
I haven't dealt with CMYK in PSP with any version under X4. So this is all guess work. I also don't know if Corel changed anything about CMYK use in PSP after they acquired it in version X.
So this is what I know based on PSPX4.
PSP using Color Management to save to do any CMYK conversions. The profile set up there is used for CMYK separations and combinations, as well as is the one used when saving to TIFF.
PSP also attempts to pick the closest comparative CMYK profile when importing an image. So it's not exactly the same one that you used when you saved out the original .ps file. Sadly PSP is not equipped to handle real CMYK anything. If CMYK if your goal, I do not recommend PSP at all.

Re: Working With CMYK Files
Thanks for the response. I've been happy with PSP as my web tool and personal image handler. In this case, I'm going to a printer for biz cards, envelopes, etc. Everything is online these days and all want CMYK because they don't want responsibility for color changes. My choices are to pay someone to get the artwork ready or figure it out myself. PSP would really be useful to a larger set of designers with the ability to work in CMYK.

Re: Working With CMYK Files
I'd suggest saving the image as a PDF file for printing. Although I haven't used it for this purpose, I see that "printing" to PDF Creator
http://www.pdfforge.org/download
has options for specifying CMYK profiles and saving to a file.
