Bizarre, but not surprising, problem: I have been using this product for years on XP, with success. However, just this past week, when I try to add an MP4 to the timeline, and play the clip or project, there's no sound, for about 80% of MP4's I've tried. I have uninstalled the product and SmartSound (both), and reinstalled, including all patches, having tried the sound before installing the patches. I know my hardware and OS are underpowered, but it worked, prior, without me making any system changes before this situation arose.
Are there any suggestions, or am I cursed to go to PowerDirector? Thanks.

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 Loses Sound on Most MP4 Inputs
Hi
Welcome to the forums
Well if Corel Video Studio has worked in the past with those files then something has changed on your PC to cause the problem.
Video Studio do update the program by installing service packs, I doubt if that change has caused the problem, but easy to check by re-installing the program without patches.
So what else has changed.
We do know that running QuickTime Player latest versions has caused some issues for some users and reverting to an earlier version 7.5.5 has cured some problems. I am fortunate now in that I can run the latest version, but using VS 10 caused problems unless I used V 7.5.5, that was a while ago, and running XP.
This post at the top of the forum refers to some issues.

Please note this may affect the operation of I-Tunes, that’s if you use I-Tunes

This may be an issue, but if I may, may I clarify something...are you saying that a bad update of QT can or may cause the VideoStudio product to render an inputted MP4 file incorrectly, or in this case, without sound?
Thanks again for the guidance...I'll look into that.

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 Loses Sound on Most MP4 Inputs
Hi
What I am saying is that it is a known problem for some users to run the latest version of QuickTime, the main problem was random crashes of the program.
Given that older versions had these problems indicates that Video Studio is struggling using those versions and may indeed have other issues.
Many users have no problems, and that in itself is puzzling.
Reverting to an earlier version may., and I say may cure your problem.
Having said that another recommendation is to run the latest version when unable to open MP4 type video.
You should try both options…………..7.5.5 and the latest version
There is more information regarding QTCF.dll
You will find details via the Knowledge Base do a search for QTCF.dll then MP4 and QuickTime.
---------------------
QT Version 7.5.5 was provided from Video Studio 10 up to I believe X5, --- X6 does not provide QuickTime and users would have to install this themselves.
I have first hand experience of crashes using VS10 and X2 with Quicktime, cured by using 7.5.5. That was some time ago.
I recently updated my operating system from XP to Windows 7 and still using QT 7.5.5

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 Loses Sound on Most MP4 Inputs
I wanted to submit a result on this question. Regressing the Quicktime version did not help. As some MP4's were working, and others were not, and because these files were converted from other formats, namely AVI, I tried a reconversion of all sampled MP4's with another tool. The newly reconverted files did successfully import into the VS product.
As such, maybe as an addition to the trouble shooting on an import problem like this, is to perform a reconversion, if applicable, with another software tool. Given the free & demo options available, finding a replacement that produces a final output compatible with VS should be a worthwhile option for others with this issue.
Thanks again.
