problem regcognition videocam
Hello, I am a new member on this forum. My country is Belgium so my English language use is'nt very good, sorry! Before I have been using Pinnacle Studio 14 (and Avid Studio 1.1) but last week I bought Corels VideoStudio X6 utlimate. I have being experimenting the software since many hours and made a first video with videotracs that were on my PC. At this point I wanted tot start editing a new video that I've recorderd with my camera yesterday. The camera is a Sony HDR-XR550VE, the same one I used with Pinnacle and Avid. So the videofiles are still on the camera's HD. When I want to transfer the new videofiles from camera to the PC a first issue happens. When I push the button 'capture video' the camera is not recognized by VSX6, a pop-up says that a driver is missing on the system. I am very surpised with this message. Restarting the VSX6 programm or the computer itself does not resolve the problem. Allthough it is possible to import the videoscenes that are on the camera's HD by the button 'import digital media' I am not happy with this solution. Is there somthing I do wrong?

hi and welcome.
you cannot 'capture' from a hard drive camcorder in VideoStudio - it is not designed for it and indeed is not at all necessary - much better to just connect the camera to your PC by a USB cable and then use Windows to drag and drop (or copy and paste) the files from the camera to a suitable folder on your hard drive.
Then either import them to a library pane in VS or insert them direct to the timeline using the "Insert Video" option - The 'insert digital media' option should only be used with DVD's which are formatted to play in regular DVD players.
Drag and drop (or copy and paste) is a far better way to get videos from camera to PC as the files are then an exact copy of what the camera made involving no loss of quality whatsoever.
bottom line - it doesn't matter how the files get into VideoStudio - any way at all that does not involve quality loss is fine.

Just to add to Brian's post.
The "Capture Video" is aimed at people with tape based DV camcorders. These require the FireWire IEEE1394 connection (Pinnacle also has this)
In addition to Brian's advice you could also try "Import from Digital Media". This will bring up a list of files and folders, including your camera if it is connected via USB, you can then download to your chosen folder and transfer the thumbnails to the EDIT Library.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.
