How much functionality exists to make PSP X5 a viable alternative to Photoshop. With Adobe's plans to use Creative Cloud only I expect there will be many users, myself included, looking for an alternative solution. Will Plugins used for Photoshop work with PSP?
Just asking
Thanks

It depends on how much of PS's functions you need, of course, and the types of image editing you want to do. Your best bet is to install the trial version of PSP and give it a thorough test with your images and workflow.
PS plugins usually will work in PSP, but there's no guarantee about that -- read the fine print on the plugin's Web page to see with which programs it's compatible, and test, test, test.

Re: Viable Alternative to Photoshop
I have only today learned of the Adobe decision, and can imagine it is disturbing to many users. Personally, I have to confess that though I have PSP X5 all up to date, I also tend to use Photoshop, simply because I have long used it and am probably more familiar with its foibles than with PSP's... and more to the point I am using Photoshop CS2, which is several versions old, But I still have to wonder whether I will ever need to catch up with the current CS 6, let alone any future cloud versions of PS.
And yes, it's also nice to know that if I ever get to that point, I will always be able to fall back on PSP...

Agreed. Same here with PSCS2 -- I find that the keyboard shortcuts, behaviour of the adjustment layers and Adobe's algorithms for image corrections make PS simply easier to use.Ken Berry wrote:Personally, I have to confess that though I have PSP X5 all up to date, I also tend to use Photoshop, simply because I have long used it and am probably more familiar with its foibles than with PSP's... and more to the point I am using Photoshop CS2, which is several versions old, But I still have to wonder whether I will ever need to catch up with the current CS 6, let alone any future cloud versions of PS.

Corel will HAVE to get the bugs in the program under control if they're ever to capitalize on this.brucet wrote:The question is will Corel use this opportunity to grab some market share?
