VS Pro X3 Will Not Load

Post by CliveM »

Hello, I upgraded from X2 to X3 a couple of years ago and continue to be very pleased with the Video Studio product. Unfortunately, the product has just started to fail to load, for no apparent reason - no changes to my pc as far as I'm aware, still running Windows 7 as I have been since purchasing X3. When I try to launch the product, I get an error message which says: "The product encountered an unspecified error and has ceased functioning. Contact Coral Tech Support and send the dump file for analysis". Don't think I'll be able to do this as I'm not on a Corel support plan. My first thoughts are: a) re-install the product or, b) upgrade to X6. Am by no means using all the functionality of X3, so don't really want to go to latest version for another year or two, by which time no doubt we'll be on X12 or something! However before un-installing and re-installing, thought it would be a good idea to check with the forum for any tips/advice on the subject. Have had some great help in the past from Ken and BlackLab and look forward to any available assistance on this one. Thanks, Clive

A number of users of different version of VS have been suffering similar problems. The source has been traced to a plug-in in the web browser, strangely enough -- something called Browser Manager, though there seems to be another variant which does the same thing.

Have a look at this thread and see if it is the same as your own problem: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 43#p268243

The Corel Knowledge Base also has an article on the problem: http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... 000000L7GE

Yes, sorted! I had "BrowserProtect" installed (no idea where it came from!), but uninstalled it as per the article in the Knowledge Base and I'm back in business. Thanks Ken for your (as always) very helpful advice. Cheers, Clive

Hello. I just signed up because of this problem. I have been using VideoStudio Pro X4 and have been going along happily until this came up. However, I don't seem to have the BrowserProtect issue, but VS Pro X4 still does not launch. What could be the problem here?

Signed, Jacob

EDIT: Since the original post, I tried doing scans with AVG, Malwarebytes and Spybot: Search and Destroy. Spybot found it and deleted everything but the registry key; which still hangs on after a couple of reboots and re-scans. Still can't launch VS Pro X4 (had to re-install a very old Ulead VideoStudio 10 so I could do a church broadcast in the interim).

Do you get the same 'unspecified error' message?

No. The cursor just appears like it's about to start and then...nothing happens.

Hi

Unfortunately we don’t know exactly the program wont start, the only advice from Corel is the Dump file Error and Babylon
I assume you have checked the Add and Remove program list for Babylon etc

Ken also asked in an earlier post if you get the same error message and you say NO so I guess it’s a different problem.

Maybe an issue with your shortcuts

If you go to C: Program Files/Corel/Video Studio X4 folder and locate vstudio.exe file, double click to run the program. Does it run from there?

The strange thing is I don't see anything related to Babylon in Add/Remove. Also, the shortcuts aren't the problem (tried suggestion and still nothing comes up).

Hi Market 43 Fan

Do you think you may still have a “malware” problem

Have you re-installed the X4 program.
----------------------------
There have been some install and run issues in the past, creating a new user account on your PC and installing through that has been successful for some users, you can then remove the new account.
The program should continue to run through your normal account.

No malware problem here, though the last couple of weeks I've been having to help reinstall Windows on a couple of other computers. I may try that, then.

I also came across a similar issue some time ago, following security updates.

Although the operating system was Vista and VS version was X2.

Windows error logs seemed to point to “Protexis Licensing” failing to load.

Rather than reinstalling the Corel VS software to maybe (?) cure the issue.

Under the compatibility settings for VS selected “run as administrator” and issue no longer persists in my case = No more error log entries relating to “Protexis Licensing” failing.

Figured I'd try something a little different and clicked "Run as..."; but after I clicked OK, I got a "Corel VideoStudio needs at least 200 MB hard disk free space in order to run properly" message. (I currently have 105 GB free).

Your system specs read;
XP pro 32bit with 5GB ram installed, is this correct?
