Problem in video clips

Post by Pete Waterman »

Hi All
I'm having a bit of a problem strange lines on videos?
The first image is a screen grab in VS X6
Image
as you can see the red blocks, first I thought it could be a fault with the camera Canon Legria HFM360 but after I took a look at the same bit of footage in std Window player I noticed this
Image
the red blocks outside the video plying area? then the clip ended and I have this
Image
if I see the blocks hit pause they are gone? I move the time line scrubber to play again the blocks to not appear?
Could this be a codec problem?? or something a bit more serious?
Any advice would be very helpful
Thanks
Pete

Hi Pete

Wow nice effect as an overlay, maybe it will disappear after you have paid for the camera.

What are the properties of the video file, I assume H264.Mov files.

Have you installed QuickTime Player, check you are using the latest version.

You mention Codec problems, yes it does look the obvious candidate.
Have you installed additional codec packs other than what comes with your programs.

Does the camera come with its own software, if yes and you haven’t installed then do so,
Some software may provide the correct codec’s for the camera.

Hi Pete

I assumed the Canon may use Mov files, clearly they are MTS so I doubt it Quick Time has anything to do with it.

I don’t think this has been reported before and MTS files seem quite stable.
Transferring the files from the camera to the pc can be Copy and Paste or using the cameras software.
One of the options creates m2ts the other mts, not sure which though, obviously not the one you are using. Changing the way you transfer the files has cured some issues for some.

You also mention installing a Codec Pack, well that may be causing the problems, you should get sufficient codecs by installing the editing programs, However Corel do advise using K-Lite for problems with reading HD type files.

Does the camera give you other options to record to, maybe 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080, and if so do these give the same issues?

Thanks Trevor
So far I have reinstalled Quicktime this help a lot but did not resolve the problem totally,
It was the K-Lite pack I had previously installed.
The files are transferred via copy paste never had a problem in the past. I will try the download via camera to see if that helps?
The option on the camera are
MXP: High Quality 24Mbps
FXP: High Quality 17Mbps
XP+: High Quality 12Mbps
SP: Standard Play 7 Mbps
LP: Long Play 5Mbps
I will try these settings and let you know.

Could it not be an issue with graphic related Hardware / Drivers?

Personally I wouldn't use windows updates, I'd go to the manufacturer of the equipment, so laptop manufacturer if its a laptop, graphics card manufacturer of graphics cards for desktops, mobo man. for motherboards etc.

I Have to agree with skier-hughes if it's a Geforce go to Nvidia if it's a Radeon go to AMD etc PC manufactures are usually one or two updates behind for some reason
I've down loaded the latest drivers from Nvidia still no improvement,
I replaced the graphics card with a smaller (in memory) size card of the same model & all looks fine at the moment :) ? it looks like it could be a graphics card failure
Fingers crossed that's the problem sorted??
