MediaCataloger.exe ruins all the perfs of paintshop pro

Post by Michael REMY »

hi !

i don't know why, but since i uninstalled fully itunes and all apple applications, corel painshop pro is ruined ! very slow at starting, preparing the first ui display..etc.

When it slows, i check the task process manager list and i discovered that MediaCataloger.exe uses more cpu resources than before.
So when i kill this process (during slow paintshop initialisation) , all is fine and become quick like before.

so , how can i desabled the MediaCataloger.exe feature. i really don't want it, not need it.

Please do no tell me to uninstall paintshop and reinstalling it. i need a real support for this problem.

thank for help

best regards.

ps : i must say that i own a huge workstation computer (i7-975x +12gb ram + ssd), so do not inquire my hardware confirguration.
i'm a Paintshop pro user since 1999 on windows 3.11 until now with psp2018 on Win7 X64

well !

so i found the solution for all the people who do not use MediaCataloger (or already use acdsee instead), and now psp opens in less than 1 second (instead 30s before):

1 - restart you computer (to have clean state)
2- go to you folder C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Corel (where x is you name login)
3- delete all the files in there (that is a huge database all all your picture of all your drives and previous drives)
4- delete also the thumbnail folder in there (it contains many thousand of folders and sub....)
5- open psp (it tales less than 1 second for me now !!!!!)
6- go to your general prefrence (Click File > Preferences > General Program Preferences)
7- go to Organizer tab and click Uncataloged Folders (delete all, and re-add all your drives liek c: d: e: f: g: ...etc) and click ok
8- click and button to select the file type to use and select all (yes we don't want mediacatalog use jpg ever !!) and ok
9-then ok to save the preferences
10 close psp
11 reopen it ! welcome to the miracle !

for me, i had to redo the preference because first time it didn't save it, so go check them to be sure all your drives still add and all the file extension was selected. Else not, redo that and save.

Again, i don't find a option to desable or desactived the mediacatalog.exe feature. That should be present !

Thanks to me !

I don't think you mentioned which version of PSP you're using.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16

When first installing Paint Shop Pro (I use X5) there should be an option NOT to download/install the Manage and Adjust utilities, only Edit,
PSP is an Image Editor, NOT a file manager, whatever Corel says.
I have never used it Manage or Adjust, although I have looked at it and found it very annoying.
Windows Explorer is faster and much easier to use.

Not having the file management utilities would make for a much smaller footprint and so a faster program.

Oh well, maybe it will happen one day..

I believe the last version of PSP to use MediaCataloger.exe was PSP X3. In X4 and X5 there's a .dll version, but that's not an actual program. PSP X3 has got to be the worst version of PSP that I've used to date.

1. My system has no C:\User folder.
@. Just rename MediaCataloger.exe to Mediacataloger.exd or whatever.
Done.
Your way is too long, and wrong.
