Intel HD 4000 Graphics Driver Problem with WinDVD11

Post by mbreslin »

Hi,

I just installed WinDVD11 as a trial, to see if it would work on my laptop. I installed it, patched it, and it runs, however when I try to play a Blu-ray disc on it, I get the following error message:

"Playback with current display driver is not supported.
To solve this issue, please update with the correct driver for your hardware or
restart Corel WinDVD."

Restarting WinDVD does no good. I continue to get this message after updating my Intel HD 4000 display graphics to the latest version, v9.19.10.3071, dated 3/19/2013, direct from Intel's website. I continue to get this message even when using a different Blu-ray player.

Is WinDVD really not compatible with Intel's HD 4000 integrated graphics?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Mike

Hi Mike

Have you tried updating the Intel Management Engine Interface driver for your motherboard?

If the driver is missing, you'll see something like "PCI Simple Communications Controller" listed in Device Manager, with the warning icon.

I'd provide a link but it seems the installers are picky about hardware and you need to get it from the manufacturer of your motherboard.

That fixed this issue for me, hopefully it will help someone else.

btw... are you the same Mike Breslin that taught at LCF in the late 80s? probably not.

Cheers,
Matt

Yes, it's already installed, that's not the problem. However, I did solve the problem: I installed a copy of CyberLink PowerDVD 12 Ultra, and it works fine. It looks like CyberLink doesn't update their slightly older products to deal with the latest Intel iGPU. Lucky for me I got v12 Ultra for $49 on sale a few months ago at newegg.

I communicated with a Corel technician about this problem when I was using HD4000 because my Sapphire card was in for RMA. He told me that WinDVD Pro 11 DOES NOT WORK on HD4000, contrary to what their website claims. There is a website about the HD4000 and its capabilities, which discusses Blu-Ray software. Their own tests proved Corel's WinDVD Pro 11 does not work, giving the error message about updating the drivers. All of the other Blu-ray watching programs worked BTW.
