Chapters disappear during burn

Post by jparnold »

I recently created a dvd which includes 'chapters'. I 'create Video' (DVD) file then 'create disk' to DVD folders on hard disk and then use Ashampoo to burn to DVD.
My 'Create Disk' has two menus, the top menu for the 'only' Video file and then the next menu which includes 2 chapters.
When I do a 'Preview' BOTH menus appear (I click on the small window of the top which shows 30 seconds of the video file and then the second menu appears with my 2 'chapters which also have small windows displaying 30 seconds of the relevant part of the video file). ALSO in the 'currently displayed menu I have 3 menus in the drop down - 'Main Menu', '2012 trip', and Main Menu: Note Menu (have no idea where this came from). So it all looks good as I expect.
HOWEVER the resulting DVD NEVER displayed the second menu.
What have I done wrong or what do I have to do differently?

The 'Note Menu' has appeared because you (presumably inadvertently) clicked on the "Add Note Menu Page" icon under the preview window in the Create disc window - you can remove it by clicking on the "Delete Note Menu Page" icon - also under the preview window. this only appears if you have a note menu.

have you played the DVD folders to see if the chapters are getting from the burn module to the folders - most software DVD players like WinDVD can play a Video_TS folder as a DVD - then we find out where they vanish

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the info re why the Note Menu appears.

VERY interesting what you suggested I check as BOTH the VOB files on the hard disk and on the burnt DVD show ALL the menus correctly on my PC.
So it must be something to do with the players. I have the same problem when played on the latest Panasonic recorder/player and an LG player - why would this be? Why would it play ok on my PC but not on two very different set top players?

Well I must admit that has me puzzled.

The only thing I would try now is to actually burn a DVD in VideoStudio - uncheck the 'create DVD folders' - check 'Create to disc' pop-in a blank DVD and burn. If that works it suggests Ashampoo is doing something strange when burning the folders.

If it still doesn't work - - - - - - - - - - - - - - HELP
